I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado. Recently my fan controls went out on setting # 1,2 and three. Today, my #4 setting went out. Any ideas what the problem might be and if it is something that can be fixed at home rather than at the dealer?

Re: Air and fan control
You have a reostat that is located in the blower motor housing it will have a 2 wire lead to it it's helld in place by 2 screws this is what regulates the fan speed. this should be replaced ..please rate the solution...thanks

Had exact same problem with my 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500. Would blow hot air thru drivers vents only and sometimes if I turned truck off and restarted would blow air conditioner for a bit. Rec'd recall letter from Chevrolet in January for this problem.
there is a resistor that controlls the speed of the fan and you have to replace it it is located where the plug goes to the fan motor it should have two plugs in it one from the controlls the other goes from the resistor to the fan it is a dealer only item it costs around 89 dollars check different dealerships if you have more than one close by the price will vary my 2006 chevy silverado work truck lost the 1 and 2 speeds then others and it was freezing out and i replaced it and have not had any problems since inspect the wires i had two wires and one part of the plug melted on mine went to junk yard and got a new plugg for under ten bucks dealer wanted 117 dollars
you need a resister found under your air duct by the passenger floor under dash board auto zone sells these for about 25.00 you may as well buy cabin air filters while your at it . 1 of the screws will be a pain to install back into the duct work I left mine out didn,t make a difference . you might have to order it as they are a comman item oh you will need a vacuum to clean up mess from cabin air filters .this is not a hard job .
