You have got to take out the coolant resevor. Also, you will probably need a serpintine belt tool to get the belt back on. i tried everything. its one of the tighter engine compartments out there.

To get the belt on just take the plastic cover on the passenger side wheel well the tensioner will be reachable with a standered wrench 13mm if I remember right.

How do I replace the Alternator on a 98 Saturn Sl1

Remove the plastic inner fender shield by turning the screw counterclockwise, then pulling the plastic free from the pop rivets. Set the shield aside. Disconnect the alternator's primary charge wire. Press the tension pulley firmly to release the tension on the primary drive belt, then slide the belt off of the alternator's pulley wheel. Unbolt the alternator from the mount by reaching into the engine compartment through the wheel well and turning the two mount bolts counterclockwise. Manipulate the alternator out of the engine compartment through the wheel well. Reconnect the primary charge post nut, securing the output wire back onto the alternator. Position a new alternator into the mount and secure it by turning its bolts clockwise. Replace the fender skirt shield by pressing it back onto its clips or pop rivets, then turning its screws clockwise. Replace the wheel and Reconnect the battery's positive terminal. How do you get the alternator out in a 91 toyota mr2

Welcome to Fixya

Lay the fan all the way to the bottom of the engine compartment below and out of the way of the alternator. (You do not need to pull it completely out of the car.) Remove the outside passenger side cowl with 2 screws. Loosen the tensioner on the alternator belt then remove the belt from the alternator pulley. (First loosen the pulley nut and then back off the long tensioning bolt from the bottom.) Unplug the green plug from the alternator. Unbolt the bolt from the top and the long bolt from the bottom of the alternator. A short pry bar helps lifting the bottom of the alternator from its bracket. Then undo the 10mm nut on the charge wire. Now reach through the quarter panel and ease the alternator back and out through the vent hole in the quarter panel.

Thank you for using Fixya!

  2. Remove the adjusting arm bolt.
  3. Remove the alternator through-bolt. Remove the drive belt from the alternator pulley and lower the alternator.

Some engines are equipped with a ribbed, K-section belt and automatic tensioner. A suitable tool must be made to remove the tension from the tensioner arm. Loosen the idler pulley pivot and adjuster bolts before using the tool..
  1. Label all of the leads to the alternator so that you can install them correctly and disconnect the leads from the alternator.
  2. Remove the alternator from the vehicle.

How do I replace the alternator on a Lexus ES300 2003 model. Having trouble figuring out how to get belt loose.

belt is loosened by pivoting a tensioning pulley arm on most newer vehicles, it should be marked on the diagram in your engine compartment of belt routing. Many have a square hole for a breaker bar or ratchet to fit for leverage, if not try a box wrench on the pulley mounting bolt, some can be moved by hand. Alternator R&R is un hook wires and unbolt from bracket/mount. Serpentine belt life is approximately 100,000 mi; you may want to replace

How to change a alternator on 98 honda accord v6, 3.0

Shut off engine and let it cool down. Remove the alternator bolts. This will loosen belt and allow you to remove alternator. Disconnect and label wires. Have a helper help you install new alternator while tightening belt. You need about 1/8 inch slack on the belt. You can purchase a belt tension tool to help you measure. Tighten alternator bolts and plug wires. Turn on engine and check that battery holding steady voltage.

Yes, I experienced the same thing with mine... you have to losen the 2 motor mounts on that side and lift the motor up about 3 ". I worked at a garage so I had access to an engine hoist. Try using a jack from underneath. Nice engineering from Mazda!!!
