2004 optima wont stay running after fillup

My 2004 Optima has 68,000 mile on it and it wont stay running after fillup. I have to push the gas to star it and rev the engine for a couple of minutes and then it is fine! As soon as I drive eveything is fine even if I only drive a little and shut of the car, it will start right up! It only does it when I put gas in it! I have replaced the gas cap and it made no difference. Please Help!!!

I am having the same problem; this just started for me two weeks ago. I have just over 63,000 miles and have had two mechanics run diagnostic and tell me they can't find anything wrong.

My problem is basically the same problem for my 2004 Optima wicth only has 30k miles. It started 10 days ago after I filled up. The car would start then die. Pushed the gas pedal, restarted and had to rev the engine for a minute before it was able to idle on its own. Since then its happened two more times over a ten day period. Otherwise the car starts, idles and drives without a problem.

I have a 2010 kia optima. Had same problem except it didn't occur after i put gas in it. Had it towed to the dealership and they determined it was the exhaust oil control valve. After replacing it, the car runs fine.

Semms to be like some of the vapor lines coming from thank to engine might be flooding your engine,
but also locate the fuel pressure regulator at the engine compartment and unplud the vacium hose, if you see any fuel coming out from fuel pressure regulator, or if the vacium hose smeel like fuel, then the regulator is not good.

Recheck your timing marks. Sounds like valve timing is off. Check compression it needs a minimum 90 lbs to run. Bet you money the timing belt was put on out of phase.

I have a kia optima 2004 that has a kill switch need to know where it is its draining my battery untill i reset it but cant find it

If you put the following into Google it shows a number of items can be reset.

"2004 kia optima reset"

One site says the Optima doesn't have a fuel pump reset, but offers this on another site

It may be under hood above brake booster, has red button to reset, the 2004 kia spectra,s are located there so i can only assume that the optima would be there to.

There is also information on resetting the computer. This will clear the engine malfunction light. There is a section in my Tips if you click on my name on resetting the vehicle ant-theft system, which is the same thing as it is controlled by the ECM.

2004 kia optima computer reset Google Search

Having said all that, drain or correctly named 'parasitic draw', is from lights being left on in the hood or trunk, or some other electrical device shorting to earth. They are difficult to find and you need a good auto-electrician.

My 2006 Kia Optima brake lights stay on constantly only when the car is running. When the car is shut off, they will function correctly. All fuses ok. Not sure where else to check.

Does your cruise control work? If not it is the brake light switch. It will be a small mechanical switch that will be activated when pushing down on the brake pedal. May need a new switch or just adjusting.
