It is a RED handled stick located on the driver side of the engine, just in front of the master cylinder-unless it is not there, you really cannot miss it. If it is gone, the tube is (hopefully) still there-otherwise, you have a bad trans leak.

Problem with the 1999 Saturn SW How do you check the transmission fluid

Assuming your vehicle is equipped with an Automatic Transmission, it will have a model MP6 or MP7 Transmission both of which have dipstick tubes. Fluid is checked when the following conditions have been met:
1. Engine is warmed up after having been run 15 minutes.
2. While engine is running, Fear Selector has been moved through all ranges and lastly into park.
3. KOER, remove trans dipstick, wipe clean and fully reinsert.
4. Remove dipstick again, and inspect fluid level on stick. It should be between the FULL HOT Mark and the ADD 1 PT or .5L Marks.
5. If needed, use only Dextron-III Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)

Where's the transmission dipstick on a 2000 saturn sl

The Saturn L series automatic transmissions do not have a dipstick. They are the "new breed" of transmissions that are SUPPOSED to be trouble free. There is a plug on the passenger side of the transmission by the drive axle It is 11mm bolt. start the vehicle in park on a level surface or hoist...at operating temp pull out the plug Fluid should just trickle out of the plug hole If no fluid comes out add fluid to trans until it does...Where do you add??? Red plug on top/center of trans. Plastic plugthat threads in Add fluid there....Good luck

My son's saturn sl1 2001 is leaking transmission

If it doesn't have a dipstick for trans it must be an L-Series.They have a plug you remove from the bottom end of tunnel on the trans. If fluid come out with it running, supposedly it's full but it's a bad design.best way is to remove trans pan, drain fliud(replace filter if needed)Re-attach pan & gasket.Re-fill with 7qts Mercon 3 fluid.Hope this helps

1997 sL1 Saturn manual transmission hard to change gears

The dipstick is behind the battery, below the master brake cylinder and is not the clutch reservoir. It has a red flip top handle instead of a ring like most dipsticks. It was hard for me to find due to engine grease. I had the same problem and was able to see that I was low on fluid (only a little) and adding fluid helped the problem.
