Question about 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

I have a 2002 chevy cavalier z22 standard tranny, 2.2l. Ive been getting this grinding noise in the low RPM'S of first and second gear, only when i keep it at 1200-1700 RPM's. The sound only comes in those gears, and stops when the clutch is pushed in. the sound isnt present while idling. I crawled under and didnt see anything obviously loose, except for the air conditioning part seems to be rattling a little. my clutch is working fine, i dont have any gear slipping and the car works well even with a load on the engine. A friend of mine and myself have been going nuts trying to diagnose the problem. we think it may be some sort of drive train issue. What do you think?

I have a 2004 that did that, im sorry to say this but you are going to need a new transmission eather really soon or a lil ways down the road but you need a new one the problem is your syncronisers in your transmission are starting to go bad witch is what alows your gears to come together at the right timing now you can avoid grindin your gears by stayin out of the rpms that it grinds in eather high or low but eventually you will need a new transmission bc eventually all of your gears will begin to grind like that and then eventually you just wont even be able to get the car in gear not due to the clutch going bad but just bc the constant grindin of the gears will cause your gears in your transmission to go out completly

I have a 98 Chevy cavalier , it has Manuel transmission, it will only go in 3rd and 4th gear, what could be the problem

It could obviously be the tranny is gone, but you would want to make sure you have enough clutch flood and the clutch is fully engaging. I had a leak in my 98 cavalier clutch fluid, and when it got low, it would not fully engage the clutch, simply making it hard to get into gear. Its DOT3 fluid. If so try reversing a little bit and gently tiring to get into gear. I believe 1st and 2nd gear share the same gear selection fork inside the tranny. Drain fluid and look for metal.

I have a 96 chevy cavalier 2.2l 5spd manual transmission...new clutch 3 months ago...fluid level is full...shifts with no grinding...but when u release the clutch... It takes a minute for it to start ...

sounds a lot like the throwout bearing is binding on the input shaft and not releasing the pressure plate. In any case, it needs to come apart to look before anything else gets damaged..

1996 Chevy Cavalier, When it's colod works fine, after it warms up, the tranny will not shift out of low gear. I changed the tranny filter, and I am constantly checking the fluid level to make sure it's...

needs trany work, when a tranny is low on fluid it will not shift into high gears. For some reason your transmission is not properly lubracating.

04 cavalier makes grinding noise in front end turn the wheel to the right grinding gets worse turn the wheel to the left grinding stops. it sounds worse at 40mph and above. what would cause this?

3 things to check:
Worn disc brake pads, grinding against the rotor.
Wheel bearing
cv joint.
You posted grinding gets worse turning to the right, the problem is the driver side wheel, but it would be best to have both wheeles checked.

2002 chrysler concorde lx low idle

with a 2002 Concord 3.5 V-6, what should the rpm be at 60mph? 70 mph?

I'm not sure if the overdrive gear is lost in the tranny, but the transmission light is on.

Thanks

Rattling Coming from Engine At low RPM (stopped) and when accl.

If this sounds like a tin can rattle it is likely a loose heat shield on top of the catalytic converter. They come loose after time and corrosion take their toll.

2003 toyota mr2 spyder 5 speed transmission grinding noise

Here is what is going on. When you push in the clutch pedal you remove the connection between the engine and the transmission. At this time all the parts in the transmission stop rotating.Since the only parts in the transmission that can rotate without moving the car are the input parts we can safely assume that the noise can only be from there. This can be a transmission input bearing. Worn Synchro mechanism (allows the transmission to shift without grinding the gears)Low fluid in the tranny. Or a bad clutch component. Top off or change the fluid. If it still makes the noise you need to take it to a tranny shop.
