Question about 1993 Chrysler New Yorker

1 Answer

Radio, horn, automatic door locks, automtic trunk lid, all quit at same time

It started with the radio cutting out, now there is power to it but it comes on and then shuts off after a second or two, the horn quit working, the automatic trunk lid stopped today, was working fine yesterday, automatic door locks quit today. The doors automatically lock at 17 MPH but will not unlock.
I know it sounds like a ground wire problem but where do I begin? Fuses are all good by the way, can't wait till tomorrow to see what goes wrong. Also, the transmission just quit for a min. I put car in low gear and it took off again. How can all these things be related?

Could be a lose connection in the dash , more then likely . Who replaced the gauge an drive indicator ? The horn / cruise control /turn signals / radio all share a common ground point it looks like ,G203
G203 Behind upper LH side of I/P, near cowl
Maybe after gauge & drive indicator replacement connection became lose . None of these componets share a power supply (fuse) I can't send picture of the location of G- 203 sorry ! Instrument cluster would need to come out to see the ground .

How do I keep my car on?

There are many things that can cause the vehicle to stall/not start. The 2 most common are lack of fuel and lack of spark. Possible fuel pump issue or relay/wiring to fuel pump. This can be checked/ruled out by performing a fuel pressure test. Another common issue with this vehicle for stalling/no start is a crankshaft position sensor that will cause an ignition spark failure. Have the codes scanned as this sensor will usually set/store a code before you throw any more parts at it

Replace radio in saturn 2005 vue. when finished the radio would not shut off with ignition, power to windows and all other electronic devices stays hot. also the lights and horn do not come on or beep when...

since the problem was seen shortly after you installed the radio; I would disconnect the power to the radio first. it usually has an inline fuse that you can just disconnect. then check to see if your symptoms went away. if so. the wiring is wrong for the radio.

The horn dosn't work. Is it easy to fix?

The horn itself is a simple mechanism. It must have good power and ground connections. First check your horn fuse to ensure it's not blown. If the fuse is okay, then test the horn by connecting a wire to the positive terminal and touching it briefly to the connection for power at the horn. If the horn comes on you have a problem between the connector and power. If the horn does not come on it may have a poor ground or the horn may itself be faulty (this rarely happens but it's not unheard of). The horn is simply a metal plate that vibrates due to a coil that's powered when you push the horn switch. I have experienced a few horns that seem to change their sound then quit working by spraying into the horn a 2 or 3 second burst of WD40 or some silicone spray. Do not do this when the horn switch is being pushed as the sprays I mentioned are very flamable. Good luck.

Yes your horn/dome lights use the same fuse as well as there is numerous other circuits that feed off this fuse like radio illumination. If you unplug the new radio does the problem go away? Could be a short in radio which I have seen or maybe pinched a wire when installing radio
