For a 2004 chevy cavalier.. what does the crank sensor do, where is it, and would it be related to it not turning over? thought the fuel filter was clogged. changed it and it still wont start. also changed the spark plugs and fuel regulator.

Check your O2 sensors. They will give that affect and work only when your engine heats up. If the car cools down and starts up again, that is a sign that your O2 sensors are shot. Replace them.
check if you have fuel.a fuel pump is a common problem on cavalier.get an assistant to hit the bottom of the fuel tank with a rubber hammer while you crank it over.it should fire up.if it does it needs a fuel pump.don't attempt to drive.it will die again.
beat on the bottom of the gas tank with a 2 x 4, while someone tries to start the car........if it starts, replace fuel pump and filter!
it's the good old W.V. TEST!!! yet it works.
you will have to drop the fuel tank ,remove the straps while supporting tank,remove fuel lines and vent lines,lower to ground ,remove ring that holts pump ***. in tank.Be certain to change filter and strainer
