2003 ford escape no start

Cranks but is not getting fuel, ran fine yesterday

We just replaced the gem module or otherwise known as body control module but out escape randomly doesn't start. We have stumped alot of very good mechanics including dealership. WE have narrowed it down to crank sensor since the tach doesn't move when this happens. Any other suggestions?

Ours is an 2003 Ford Escape V6 3.o DOHC

I have the same year, make, and model. It will start and if I change gears (from R to D) or if I stop then go to accelerate, it will stall. We changed the fuel filter and it actually got worse/more frequent after that.

The solution for my problem was the crank position sensor. The only way we were able to find the problem is the escape finally would not crank and I was able to have the diagostic done at the time it would not crank and then the mechanic was able to tell the crank sensor was faulty. Hope this can help someone else, so far the escape has been running great and never had any other issue with it.

Check fuel cut off switch, if the car was parked somewhere where it could have been hit. Reset the switch by pressing down on the button.

It could be the mass air flow sensor. Its mounted to the side of the air cleaner. Just unplug the electrical connection to bypass the unit. If this is the problem the vehicle should run smoothly.

SOURCE: How do I replace a fuel pump on a 2003 escape?

Check to see if the inertia switch is tripped first. Read your owner manual for location and how to reset. Just push the button. It usually only trips in an accident to shut off the fule pump in case there is a leak.

here is how to replace the pump. It's good because you don't have to drop the tank!

  1. Relieve the fuel pressure. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00 . (I disconnect inertia switch and crank engine for 10 seconds to revilve pressure).
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. (I don't do this myself). For additional information, refer to Section 414-01 .
  1. Lift the LH rear seat cushion.
  1. Position the carpet aside.
  1. Remove the screws and the fuel pump module access cover.
  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  1. Disconnect the fuel and vapor lines from the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00 .
  1. s3k~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif WARNING: The fuel tank may be pressurized. Remove the fuel tank filler cap slowly. If a hissing sound is heard, wait until the condition stops before removing the fuel tank filler cap. If these precautions are not followed, fuel may spray and cause personal injury.
    Remove the gas cap.
  1. Using the special tool, remove the fuel pump module. (If you don't have tool, use a chisel or screwdriver and tap counterclockwise to rotate the ring).
  1. NOTE: Install a new fuel pump mounting gasket.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Start the engine and visually inspect for leaks.

Not a bad job. buy pump on ebay or new at discount at

SOURCE: headlight went out in 2003 ford escape i have

you have to remove the whole headlight assembly, then pop off the front cover pull the old bulb out and put the new one in. reverse the process to re-install. there is a small plastic tab on the topfront of the headlight assembly, that is what you need to release to get the clear cover off and get inside.

2002 Escape. Died yesterday while driving. Will not start. Fuel pump is working... ant ideas??

Crank Sensor? I had a 99 Ford Explorer that died on me in the middle of driving and it turned out to be a bad crank sensor. Check all fuses and relays though just to eliminate the obvious, and maybe buy a repair manual from advance or auto zone. Best of luck!

Ran fine then would not start turns over fine the theft light is blinking changed fuel filter no luck and checked fuel shut off it is ok gl

if the theft light is blinking while you are cranking odds are the ignition is not recognizing the key. try another key if possible, may need dealer to reprogram key to ignition. hope this helps. please rate.

2003 dodge dakota. v6, will nto start. ran fine yesterday and today will not start. battery is fine and vechile cranks. kinda coughing and sputtering. will not actuall start.

Its a fuel issue. First be sure you have gas. If you do then your fuel pump has lost it's prime. You either have a leak in a fuel line someplace or a bad fuel pump.

Fuel problem

wouldn't be that.. if you smell fuel, your getting fuel... prolly a spark issue, pull off a wire and CAREFULLY turn engine over and look to see if spark is arching.. if so, plugs are prolly fouled, remove, clean and or replace...
