Check engine light

What sort of problems would cause the check engine light to come on?

My check engine light had been on for quite some time now, although it didn't seem to affect the way the car performed... I was told that it was more than likely the O2 (oxygen) sensor, which there are 2. For an auto shop just to check to see which one is affected, they would charge $85. The parts at AutoZone run about $100. So, it's probably just as well to replace both and save some money on the diagnostic. By the way, replacing the O2 sensor give the car better gas mileage, since it's not running as "rich". Hope this helps.

2005 hyundia sonta and it want drive pass 30 check engine light on ?

The problem is neither of those things. The CHECK ENGINE light is on because the engine computer has sensed a dangerous problem. To protect the engine, the computer has limited the power output of the car. The computer has put the engine into what we mechanics refer to as "limp home" mode. You need to take your car to a competent mechanic to have the problem diagnosed and repaired. Once it is fixed so the CHECK ENGINE lamp stays out, your engine's power will return. Common causes of this sort of thing are a bad MAF [Mass Air Flow] sensor or a clogged catalytic converter [often caused by a bad MAF or bad oxygen senor or a vacuum leak]

My 2004 impala shuts of when cold but once u get the gas it runs fine whats seem to be the problem

You may want to replace the coolant temp sensor as these can cause all sorts of problems seemingly unrelated. Are there any service engine soon (check engine) or low coolant lights on?

Check eng light stays on

Check engine lights have been on all vehicles for 30 years now

What's the issue?

Have to diagnose the car, using the codes you should have
when the light came on

If you don't give us the codes,we can not even
guess at the system with the problem

Still need a repair shop to find & resolve the issue

Can leak in resonater kick engine light

It can turn the check engine light on because of the extra oxygen that enters behind the catalityc converter but to be sure you should have the computer scanned for trouble codes, this would give me some sort of idea what the problem actually is.

The yellow light that looks like a transmission or and engine just came on in my 2001 Dodge neon. What could it mean?

That is your check engine light. It means there is some sort of problem with the engine most likely electrical. It will have to be hooked to a scan tool to find out what is causing it to come on.

My SRS light is on and my horn doesn't work anymore. Could these be related to eachother? Also, my check engine light is on and I just replaced my transmission and they said an O2 sensor of some sort is...

Yes the SRS (air bags) light could be related to the horn problem. Working on the SRS can be very hazardous so I highly recommend you take the car to your local Honda dealer and let an expert repair the SRS. The check engine light can be many things and a scan of the ECU will help in diagnosing the problem.

ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT STAYS ON

If the light was flashing when it came on, then it means your engine is misfiring.

A solid light can mean anything.

This light comes on when the computer detects a fault of some sort in its diagnostic tests. If it keeps detecting this issue, the light will remain on. If the light turns off, then it has detected that the issue may no longer be present.

In order to find out what the exact reason was for your light, You need to have your car computer scanned to retrieve the code that the computer would have stored when the light triggered. Most garages will do this free of charge. The code will tell you what may have caused the light to initially go on

Check engine light comes on after about 15 minutes of driving...turns off after car is turned off and turned back on, but comes back on after a little while...doesnt change way the car runs...is it worth...

If the check engine light is on, then take it to any auto parts store. They will attach a scan tool and get a readout of the engine fault codes. This will help narrow down what is causing the problem. The purpose of the check engine light is to alert the driver to a potential problem. It could be an emission problem of some sort like an oxygen sensor going bad or some other reason. Even though the engine is running fine, the codes should still be checked. Hope this helped you.

Dash board shows check after the start of engine

There are a number of recalls having to do with a "cam sensor". That might be the cause. Otherwise, its probably time to get someone use a code reader and see what the light is from.
