All electrical users are dependent on battery condition; the starter draws 120-200 amps of current and drops even a good battery down a volt or two.
The tolerance of such niceties as the door locks and trunk release are also dependent on the battery and the voltage and current needs for them to perform can vary widely so if the battery is low, many items will cease to operate properly, the starter first and foremost since its needs are way beyond the load represented by the accessories.
If this problem occurs suddenly, the battery may be OK but its post clamps may not be contacting any longer so cleaning the battery posts and the clamps that sit on them is the first thing to try. You can do a basic check to determine if battery or clamps are at fault by having a friend with a meter check across the battery and trying to start the car; if one measures directly on the battery posts and the battery stays at 12.6 volts while trying to start the car, then the battery clamps or the connection at the starter is at fault. Alternately, if the meter probes are placed on the battery clamps and the voltage plummets when the stater is tried, the clamps are definitely at fault.     A special wire brush with a male and female end can be had at any parts store and will do a good job on the two mating parts.
NOTE: When fussing around with your battery, ALWAYS remove the ground (negative) clamp FIRST. If your tool bumps something that is grounded, nothing bad will happen and then the positive one next because if you then get between the positive post and some chassis part, again, nothing will happen because the negative end is already separated from the chassis.

Backlight in door panel won't turn off

it is very possible for the lights to drain the battery. to the second question, if you were to unplug the switches, it should turn the lights off. along with this, no you wouldn't be able to use windows. you may have to replace the switch due to water damage.

Broke the only key to sebring jx convertible, can't open the trunk, and water damaged the wiring tothe trunk pop button in the console, how can I get inthe trunk?

The easy way is to remove the pop trunk switch and locate a good area or the wiring to the pop trunk and cut it then touch the two wires together, thats the easy way water may damage the switch but wont damage all the wiring just find a good peice and cut and touch them together and trunk will pop open as long as the trunk release motor works, i would start there. another way would be to go to the dealer and give them the vin # and they will cut you a key.

the last thing to do if all fails is to have a lock smith make a key. hope this helps.

'91 LS400, trunk will not open. key will not turn, electric latch switch clicks but won't open. valet lock in open position. Tried 1) disconnect battery, reconnect battery, use switch, push down on...

If you hear the sound of the electric latch switch, then it's working but stuck somehow. Just put the key in the switch and turn it to the right and then pull up the trunk or ask someone to help you. it will open. I tried it today and it opened with me. It was stuck from inside by some kind of a broken plastic pieces. Just removed it and now it's working fine. good luck

Trunk wont open and the back seat wont fold down on our kia optim

By switching the lever you locked the inside trunk release, you will need to put lever back. as far as the trunk you may need to remove the rear seat, pop lower part out and then remove the bolts to the top half of the seat then try to reach the lever so it will open from the inside. i've found that many of these cars with the pop lever inside have sticking trunk locks from not being used, what you do first is spary lock good, with wd40 or pb blaster then slide key in and out and try to turn this may take a whhile but it works then tumbler will free up, you just have to keep spraying inside lock and working the key.

Trunk light on ~ trunk not open ~ alarm going off

look for a what is called a valet switch under the dash.(it is a pushbutton switch or a toggle switch.) Have somebody help you and turn the key all the way to where it wants to crank the engine and press the button switch or flip the toggle switch at the same time . within 5 seconds at least.your antitheft light will come on and your alarm will sound once. That should bypass the anti theft locking and reset the ECU .Then try to start the car. I don't know if it will work , but give it a try.
