Its faulty sensor for driver warning (control light and acustic) when is parkbrake switched up. For safety goes warning after move on. When stopped is warning out. Its VERY EASILY to repair
Hello glitzandg252...This has been a problem for many VW owners. Brake Light Switch Malfunction is the cause of it. In fact VW has issued a recall for the defective brake switch here's the info:
Recall 04V096000: Brake Light Switch Malfunction
DEFECT: The brake light switch on these vehicles may malfunction. If this happens, the brake lights could become inoperative, or come on and stay on, even though the vehicle is parked.
Give them a call and see if your vehicle is included in the recall, you will need the VIN number.
In the mean time ...|VW Roadside Assistance has a technique that will get you by until you can get repairs done.... Here's the technique:
1. Turn off the ignition. 2. Press the brake pedal 5 times, and on the 5th, keep your foot on the brake and start the car. 3. Let it run 5 seconds, and turn it off. 4. With your foot still on the brake, turn the ignition key 1/4 forward 5. Shift to a position between N & D 6. Now start the car. Shift to D. It what you really want to do is back out, shift from D to R.
Good luck...i hope this helps. Please take time to rate my response a FIXYA...
