Question about 1999 Suzuki Vitara

1 Answer

1999 1.6 L Grand Vitara gearbox spares (replacement gearbox)

The gearbox was pulled down by a gearbox specialist because of a noisy 5th gear.  The 5th gears need replacement plus all bearings - one bearing has worn very badly which I suspect is the initial cause - the 5th gears have damaged faces. It seems that getting parts for this box here is no mean feat and a second hand box does not exist.  The car has done about 240,000 km so a second hand box would be great.
Is there any other suzuki model with the same gearbox, onto which I can bolt the transfer case.  I would imagine second hand boxes would be available in the states but that is a last option obviously.

I have a 2006 Suzuki grand vitara that has got stuck in 5th gear twice. Since then it grinds when I shift it into 5th and reverse. Other gears are fine. Any ideas?

The syncros are going bad on that shaft. The 5th gear and Reverse are on the same shaft. You will have to bring it to a shop to have the parts replaced as it will only get worse.

VW GOLF 1.4 1999 S. Gearbox makes whining sound at idle. once clutch is pressed sound goes. car drives fine with no noise in 1st-4th gears. unable to select 5th gear.. just grinds and wont engage. VW Golf...

No good news on this one I think
Your whining sound problem is the Layshaft bearings in the gearbox are badly worn. It also seems that the baulk rings are damaged on 5th gear.

5th gear doesn't lock

5th gear is gone, it'll be cheaper to find a good second hand one with a waranty than to get your one fixed sorry to say. The inside of gearboxes are only a place for gearbox specialists and they arent cheap unless you know someone.
