Question about 1999 Jeep Cherokee 4WD
I have a 1999 cherokee recently it ran hot. cut engine and let it cool down as soon as light came on. I replaced the thermostat but it still wants to run hot after 10 or so minutes of driving. I recently had a high idle problem that i thought was a contributing factor but now i have that problem cured so I know it is more. i have been told that the 4.0 has a issue with trapping air that adding water thru a heater hose would push any trapped out. going to try this in the morning. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Your water pump is going out. Check for tale-tell signs of this one the bottom of the pump near the pulley. Something called a weep hole will show a trail of leakage. Your '99 isn't a sealed system so I won't worry about trapped air too much. You can always get the prestone flush kit. It comes with a t-adapter that will splice into your heater hose. From there you can fill it up all you want.
