Hi Sidu, Have you torqued the head correctly? Did you flush out the cooling system by back flushing. The radiator is one part of the system and if the oil had gotten into the water jackets it may still be there? Get yourself some engine flushing agent and put that into the radiator, follow the instructions. Afterwards disconnect the rad hoses and get a hose pipe put it into the engine side of the connection and back flush untill the water coming out is clean. If the vehicle is a diesel engine it may be fitted with an oil cooler, (usually on the side of the block behind an alloy cover. It could be that there is a leakage in the seals and that would cause a leakage! Regards Johngee10

How do I check for a blown head gasket on my 1990

Pretty much same answer as I gave for 87 Reliant see below. Shops have equipment to do cylinder leakage test. Do basic stuff below before doing last test ...cylinder leakage...which costs $$$.

Main point you are losing antifreeze/water. Check to see if you have water on the dipstick mixed in with oil. If so...probably a head gasket. If oil looks normal..... Before you do any test, tighten every hose connection. Check for loose connection into antifreeze reservoir. Sometimes there are small cracks on top which lets out pressure from cooling system. Look for leaks on water pump and radiator. Look at spot where you park the car...any liquid on floor? Not sure?..Put piece of cardboard under car to see if liquid is dripping from car. No leaks?...Start with a pressure test of the system. The pressure test is simply equipment that replace the radiator cap, a hand pump connected to it then air is pumped into cooling system. You watch the gauge to see if pressure is dropping. If pressure does not drop ..problem is most like a worn radiator pressure cap or stuck thermostat.. Do not buy the kind with button on cap to push down and release pressure. get original type and correct pressure. If overheating still, thermostat could be stuck, replace. Overheating of engine causes vapor lock, bubbles in fuel, which causes car to stall and kill. When cools off, fuel cools down and fuel will flow through fuel system again. Large amount of oil disappearing with overheating also sounds like head gasket or cracked head....Tighten up all bolts to gaskets, look for oil leaks on garage floor or driveway. If engine has developed a miss when running, pull plugs out and look for wet fouled plug. If antifreeze leaking into cylinder...plug tip will be whitish, if oil leaking into cylinder, grimey oil fouled. Do compression test on cylinder that is fouled and that will pinpoint if bad head gasket or cracked head. When doing compression test, radiator cap is removed and you listen to hear bubbles in radiator from the cylinder leaking into cooling system. 87 Reliant not worth pulling engine apart if head gasket or cracked head. Best oil treatment to reduce oil consumption is "Engine Restore" Used on my 58 Impala 348 tri power for 28 years. If I did not add it after oil changes it used oil and smoked....I swear by it for ANY engine after 100,000 miles.

My have a blown head gasket on my 2000 Honda Accord V6. What could have led to this problem?

most common causes of blown head gaskets are engine overheating. could be caused radiator cooling fans inoperative, cooling system leaks, clogged radiator passages,or sticking thermostat. if a head gasket is severely blown the cooling system will pressurize very rapidly on cold engine startup. other more rare cases of head gaskets blowing could be loose head bolts. make sure new head bolts are used and torqued correctly if service manuals recommend new head bolts.

Oil entering the cooling system

  • With a new radiator it sounds like a cracked head or a bad had gasket. The only place that oil can enter the coolant (other than a cooler line in the radiator) is from the two things I listed above. That's the only real place oil can pressurize into the coolant. A head gasket can leak antifreeze into the crankcase or oil into the coolant. Just depends on where the gasket (or block) fails.

  • You need to have a compression test to confirm this but if you replaced the radiator the head gasket ( in extreeme cases th block) is the the other reason for oil in the radiator.

  • Hope this helps.

I have oil in radiator in td5. 1999 model. What could cause this when the head was reconned 12 months ago

This is typically a sign of a bad head gasket. You may want to check your oil for water / antifreeze. While oil in the cooling system is non-damaging, water in the crankcase oil can destroy the engine. You say the head was recently reconditioned, it may still have problems that were not fully corrected and may need to be replaced. I wish I had better news for you...

Engine is overheating. Radiator cooling fans are not coming on.

The northstar engine has head bolt issues, test for exhaust in the cooling system. What happens is under load compression gasses get pushed into the cooling system, and that pushes coolant out....
One clue is the loss of heater temp.
This is extremely expensive to fix, as you need to totally disassemble and put block on machinists bench for new head bolt threads in the aluminum block...
Replacement of head gaskets will only be short term fix.

Radiator 22r toyota

This sounds like a broken head gasket. Water is separated from the oil, but the oil is seeping through a crack or break in the gasket and getting into the water. This can plug up the radiator and prevent cooling system from working.

Head gasket is a good days work to even a weekend and requires a great deal of expertise and most of these have special tools for the head bolts.

I would get repaired as soon as possible, as water is getting into the oil as well and can vapor lock the engine.

Replaced cylinder heads and had them pressure tested, installed new head gaskets and antifreeze drove the vehicel for a week and half and tnoticed it was down 2 litre3s anti freeze at low speed it pushes...

You had the heads pressure tested? Did they do a compression test or a leak down cylinder test. It is possible to have an exhuast leak through the head gasket into a coolant jacket and push coolant out throught the overflow. A very small crack in the cylinder or head can do the same thing, and you wouldnt necessarily see any oil in the coolant. You can buy an inexpensive radiator pressure tester, hook it up and pressurize the cooling system to the pressure listed on the cap. Start the car and see if it gains pressure that is not consistant with the coolant warming up. Another test is to hook a hose to the overflow directly off the radiator. make sure the radiator cap is tight and put the other end in a bottle with water in it. If you see a stream of air bubbles which quit when you turn the car off, then you have exhaust gas pressurizing the cooling system.

WHERE IS THE OIL PUMP LOCATED ON 99 LR DISCOVERY

The Oil Pump is located in the sump of the engine. It has a common issue with the Oil Pump Bolt, which holds the sprocket driven by a chain to the oil pump. On some models this has been known to work loose due to not being loctited. The replacement Pump Bolt has a dab of loctite. My 99 bolt was loose. You'll need a new sump seal too. Parts are about £20's worth.

1999 olds alero leaking coolant

problem could be heads bolts . i put new bolts in put a little sealer on them . make sure your bolt holes is clean free from debris. put a lillte sealer on intake gasket on top and bottom where coolants travel. if all was done . drain engine oil in clean container .set it aside. take radiator cap off .you a coolant pressure rise kit .put a pan under oil pan with drain plug still off .pressure your radiator about 10 psi. make sure you have antifreeze in radiator and engine . when you pressure up to 10 psi look under the car if coolant comes out oil pan. you got leaking head gasket. if not .put oil pan plug back on . put oil back in car . check your freeze plugs also.
