May be hooked up backwards?
or there is something draining the battery whilst engine is off.
get a multimeter and start the truck. as soon as you get it started measure the voltage coming from alternator. observe the minus sign carefully and ensure you have the right leads going to the right side of the battery. upon starting it should read around 12.8v rev the engine up a bit and keep it reved up for a minute or 2 and it should read around 14.4v. let us knwo how you get on.

I have put a new alternater, belt, and battery in my daughter's 1998 Hyundai Elantra and it still want hold a charge. As soon as we give it a jump then we try to move the car it cuts off. I don't know...

I would have the whole charging system tested with a Volt Meter before you change anything else. You can test the Alternator with a Volt Meter while the engine is running. The Alternator should be putting out between 13-14 volts, anything less and you have a bad Alternator. Check all Battery, Starter, Ground connections for loose or corroded wires and tighten or clean as needed.

1990 mercury marquis the alternater won't charge. Took old one off and had it checked it was bad put new one on still won't charge I took the new one off and had it tested it was good.

You may need to have the battery tested. If the battery is no good the alternator won't charge it. Check the belt also, make sure it's sized right and not overly worn or slipping. Hope this helps.

Not charging

First tell me why you don't think it's charging.
Because of the voltage reading you are getting at the battery terminals? The range you want is between 13.6v to 14.2v. The higher the voltage the lower the amps. and true the other way, the lower the voltage the higher the amps. If you get a reading of 13.6v or lower, the alt is nearing or at max output. An alt can only run at maximum for around fifteen minutes and it will start slinging solder from overheating. It's a good indication the battery is either totally dead or junk. Charging above 14.2 the alternater is running wide open and is only putting out high volts which will cause the battery to boil , in turn destroying it. This is a bad alternater. All alternaters have integrated voltage regulater with the exception of ver few of the earlier ones. You cannot test an alternater by removing a battery cable to see if the engine keeps running without taking great risk of damaging the alt, regulator. So tell me why you feel it isn't charging. Remember an alt is not made to charge dead batteries. Their sole function is to maintain the battery charge. Without a battery, the alt won't last 10 seconds.
Hope to hear from you and good luck.

Brand new battery, wants to turn over but keeps losing its charge, the break lights only turn off if you lift the pedal after u use it, alternater belt squeaks a little. wat could cause this when the...

Well, if the alternator belt squeaks a little, it cannot be actually charging properly, resolve that...

First steps would be to fully charge the battery and measure the voltage. Turn of vehicle Disconnect the negative terminal overnight, for a night or two.

If battery still dead, focus on the battery.
If battery is not dead, put a volt meter between the negative terminal and cable and measure voltage... do not be mislead by interior lights, or clock, pull those fuses, during testing...

Anyways, keep going until you find a drain.

The alternator has diodes that can cause a drain...disconnect for testing purposes...

NEVER run the vehicle with the battery cable dicsonnected.

sounds like alternater, is on its way out, if it is not charging or over charging, it can drain your battery dead.

Sometimes alternater does not charge battery

Drive the car to the auto parts store and have them test the battery and alternator for proper charge.  You probably just bought a dud, even though they are new.  Doesn't happen much but does happen.
