Hi there is only two places you will find this little beastie that is around the crankshaft pully look carfull and see if you can see any wires going to that area as the sensor maybe behind the the lower timming cover and you cannot see it if thats clear check around the gearbox housing where it bolts to the engine look for a small sensor that normally has two wires coming from it check all round not just under the bonnet but under neath as well its there get a cup of tea and take your time if you let it wind you up you will never find it

2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 Mercedes CRD will not start

does it start and run for 3 seconds on test fuel

yes, engine ok, EFI bad.

no, bad engine, engine must be good to run.

EFI cant run bad engines..

so compression at spec......????

why beat the EFI to death,

all engines run on test fuel.

with gas engines, takes spark and good engine

on diesel, takes only good engine. simple huh (and some air)

for test fuel try diesel in a spray bottle into the injection port.

google this

or use youtube on test fuel on any diesel car. or truck

this is called basics....... basic basics.

1: good engine, and pumps air ok. (must breath)

2: good fuel.

3: test fuel works now. if not check above.

The crank sensor is located on the engine near the flywheel axis of the crankshaft.

Crankshaft Position Sensor Removal & Installation To Remove:
Location of the crankshaft position sensor on the 2.4L engine 90904g51.gif
Location of the crankshaft position sensor on the 3.0L engine 91154g20.gif
Location of the crankshaft position sensor on the 3.3L and 3.8L engines 91154g21.gif
NOTE: On the 2.4L engine, the crankshaft position sensor is mounted to the engine block behind the alternator, just above the oil filter. On the 3.0L, 3.3L and 3.8L engines, the crankshaft position sensor is mounted on the transaxle housing, above the vehicle speed sensor.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor electrical connector.
  4. Unfasten the sensor mounting screw, then remove the sensor from the vehicle by pulling it straight out.
To Install:
NOTE: If the sensor removed is going to be re-installed, clean off the old spacer on the sensor face. A new spacer must be attached to the sensor face before installation. If the sensor is being replaced, be sure that a paper spacer is attached to the sensor face.
  1. Install sensor and push the sensor in until contact is made. While holding the sensor in this position, install and tighten the mounting bolt to 105 in. lbs. (12 Nm).
  2. Connect the crankshaft position sensor electrical connector.
  3. Lower the vehicle.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.
