what is the reason of overheating of acclaim 92 model

  • jasonroliver Nov 02, 2008

I'm working on somebody's car for them and it's doing the same thing as yours. If you've found out your car's problem, please email me and let me know how you fixed it. Yesterday I replaced the thermostat, flushed the system (it was discustingly full of ****), and replaced the coolant of course. The coolant it had in it was nearly just water, and the corrosion was unbelievable. Since doing all this, it does the same thing. I'm wondering if this car has a clogged top hose. There was enough corrosion. It's the only area I didn't confirm passage. Other than that, all I can this of is the water pump. Oh yeah, the electric cooling fan does not come on, but I can't find a fuse for that to see if it's burned.

Any help would be appreciated, at jasonroliver@gmail.com. Thanks.

Have you checked your cooling fan to see if it is working propely? Let the car idle and get warm and listen for the fan to kick in (if they are electric) or just watch to see if the fan starts to spin faster if it is the old school type with a clutch. Have you replaced the thermostat? A bad one will let the temp rise since it opens too late and then the temp will drop off. But it won't due this only at a light and it will do it infrequently.

There are mutiple freeze plugs. There are some in the sides of your engine block as well as the rear of the block. Locations depend on what motor you have.

My 1986 plymouth turismo runs hot and overheats

You say it gets hot and overheats, are you losing coolant when it overheats? If it isn't boiling over, you seemed to cover everything that could be wrong, the fan is working, if it is not boiling over, just registering hot on the gauge, I wonder if it's just a temp. sending unit that's bad, indicating a overheating problem when there really isn't one. The water pump is bad when the shaft bearings go bad, and it will leak at that point. So, let me know if the car is actually boiling over (steam visible, exiting the cooling system)
