Question about 1996 Buick Regal Olympic Gold

1 Answer

96 regal 3.1 liter

Had the right front tire pull out of the transmission because of a bad ball joint. Had this fixed and picked up my car and it runs rough. I changed the plugs and wires along with changing an o2 sensor. Its seems to run more rough. Runs rough, sounds like some misfires along with the smell of gas. Any word?

This car must have many miles on it?? And not cared for! Never mind Check for vaccum leaks first. Then , at night, fire it up and look for sparks. No sparks, with a spray bottle dampen the ignition, this should lead you to the prob. Frankster016

2007 dodge caliber rt slap stick put new tires on 3 months ago driver side front tire is worn cant let off wheel car pulls bad to the right side of the road

The popping could be from a bad CV axle joint, or a bad wheel bearing. Better get checked, sounds very worn. Raise the wheel on a jack and watch for play. Grab wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock, and shake back and forth-watch for play. Wheel bearing? CV joint -is boot still good? Ball joints at bottom of wheel attaching point to the control arm-check this for play, too.

Steering wheel still goes to the right. How to fix it?

If the suspension is so worn that the wheel can be wobbled then yes you either have a bad ball joint or a worn tie rod. There are a couple of possible causes. Do you trust your mechanic? If so take his advice and get the ball joint replaced. I would ask him to guarantee that this will fix the problem before letting him work on it though, otherwise it might turn into a job where suddenly, you need this too and this too and this too and a cheap job winds up costing you a ton of money.

check motor mounts, transmission mounts, and u joints on the drive shaft. it could also be bad ball joints somewhere in the front end, or even unbalanced tires.

Steering wheel and tire issue

Have a front end suspension check done to eliminate any worm ball joints -shockies- worn suspension rubbers-- steering problems. If ok have a wheel alignment done and have the rear end aligned first as it affects the front alignment. The violent wobble is castor wobble and indicates negative castor possible from sagging suspension springs. The camber is out at that results in the car following every dip in the road. The camber has to work in conjunction with the toe-in measurement and if the 2 are not correct then you will have problems.

Will bad front ball joints cause excess wear and tear on my front tires?

I vote yes. Any worn component of the front end be it ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, even tire balance will adversely affect tire wear.

sounds like you need new ball joints. jack the front of the car up one side at a time so that the tire is clearly off the ground. once you do that try to push and pull the tire from left to right. if it does move then its your ball joints.

96 merc cougar. Front end clunking noise when you shake the car from side to side. Seems if you turn the wheel it stops. Hard to tell really what side its coming from. Any thoughts? I cant find anything...

this vehicle is known for suspension noises the most popular of which is the upper control arms but there is trailing arm bushings and ball joints that make almost the same identical sound. you can jack the car up on one side when the tire clears the floor hold the tire at 3 and 9 o' clock and rock left to right and feel for any play or lose feeling in the suspension it is supposed to be rigid the slightest play in any of these items you wont believe the racket they would make. do the same for the other side as well...then hold the tire at 12 and 6 o' clock and rock the tire up to down and do the same for the other side., if it is suspension bushings or upper ball joints you will find it like this. the lower ball joints however is a lil more tricky jack the car up on one side placing the jack under the lower control arm as close to the ball joint as you can go and jack till the tire is about 1-2 inches off the ground stick a bar under the tire and pry the tire higher off the ground and release repeat this till you can confirm weather there is play or not in the lower ball joint NOTE: it is best if you do this test with 2 people one to look at the ball joint while the other works the tire. for the trailing arm bushings you need 2 people for this one as well..... have someone drive the car forward 5 feet then step on the brake do it in reverse as well and step on the brake, fix your eyes to the back of the tire 3 o' clock on the driver side and the fender and see if there is excessive play. NOTE: the wheel is supposed to give a little but that is about 1/2 of an inch front to back any more and these bushings are bad.

Steering jerks unpredicable in a slight curve most of the time to the left

Is likely that it needs the steering column sensor replaced. A bad sensor will cause the steering to instantaneously get easier to turn, resulting in what feels like a **** in the steering wheel. $40 part.
