when i pulled the spark plug boot off the plug there was oil in the cylinder that houses the plug. did not yet pull plug to see if contact was soaked. I know off the rubber boot that can slip on and off the boot at the bottom but either way this should not be there to stop oil from getting onto plug. you should just not have oil in there because no way to get there unless oil inside combustion chamber first and then must seep through. just happened to my corolla while driving she was running hot first for a little. does anyone know cost of having rings replaced assuming this is the problem

If Biggy1 has described it right, I think when you remove the WIRE to the spark plug ( not the plug itself ) and oil jumps out, there is a cylindrical seal that needs replacing and one does not need to even remove the cylinder head.
I have the same problem with my corolla. On the other hand if Biggy meant when removing the SPARK PLUG oil was on the contacts....

An oil fouled spark plug indicates an engine with worn piston rings and/or bad valve seals, allowing excessive oil to enter the chamber..you need to change the piston rings....

Good luck...

check the spark plug,,, if there are signs of oil in the tip there is a seal leaking in the valve stem. or piston oil ring is wear out.

If you want to go with OEM parts, then Nippendenso is what Toyota put in it from the factory. You can use any brand, but get the spark plugs that are rated for the car.Getting a spark plug not recommended for the vehicle can have an impact on performance.

1990 toyota corolla stereo wiring codes i just purchased a sony stereo and i took out the old radio in my 1990 toyota corolla but i cant figure out how to connect the wires i need the color code for...

what you need is to buy a wiring adapter for your car.it only cost about 15 bucks and plugs right in to your original plugs that were connected to your factory radio.the great thing about this adapter is that you dont hava to cut your original plug off just in case if you ever want to reinstall your original back.also the wires that go to your new headunit are color coded to match the exact colors that you connect to your stereo.you can't mess your connection up because all you have to do is connect each wire to the right color, tape them up,connect your stereo and you have music with all of your speakers working like they should and without any headaches.i hope this info helps.take care and good luck, manny

Pull the spark plug wires out one by one and check for oil on wire. Sometimes the valve cover spark plug hole gaskets leak oil into the spark plug hole and causes a misfire. If oil found clean with brake or carb cleaner and blow out with compressed air. also when car runs bad listen under hood for snapping noise this would be spark escaping to ground somewere. In a dark garage you might be able to see the spark.

If there's really no spark from the distributor, perhaps there is water in it? WD40 used to be the favourite treatment for these things, didn't it?
