You may have a failing antitheft system. These will actually turn the injectors off to prevent theft. When it fails or mis communicates the system will shut down. This link explains http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/
Yes, when the anti theft security fails, it will interupt the signal from the ignition to the starter so that the ignition wont work. (so nobody steals your car) It can also do the same with the injectors. Every car type is different. This might be why the car only runs for a few seconds, the Theft system is looking for the proper signal and when it doesnt get it, it shuts the injectors down. Normally happens in 5 seconds or less. An easy way to tell if this is the problem is to look for the SECURITY light right after the car stalls and dies. If that light comes on, then you'll need to bypass the security anti theft system or take it in to the dealer to get fixed. What kind of car and year?

i can't understand that web site!!!lol. you have told me that befor and someone told me the anti theft was under the carpet on the drivers side by the door. is that true? can i just unhook it? how about resetting the computer? how do i do that? we just put a new ignition in and it still wont crank by the key? what could be wrong with that? he cranks it with two wires running from the battery. he touches the two ends together and it cranks. it will stay running for a couple of sec and then shut off. could the anti theft be why the key won;t crank the car? we have also replaced the starter. we paid 1300$ for the car and have put about another 600$ in it. we can't figure it out!!! this has been the hardest car to work on!!!! please help and thank you very much!!!!
the car is a 89 pontiac bonneville.
