My 1997 model Ford Fiesta Encore - has developed a problem in that when waiting in stationery traffic the fan will not kick in and the temperature needle starts rising until the car starts moving back into the free flowing traffic - any ideas - does the fan motor need replacing

jack it up and put a stand under the lower track control and check the ball joints ,then a crowbar in the inner bushes ,also check teh tyres for deformation ,does it have two tyres the same make and same tread pattern on the front wheels
Thre are two possible things wrong, one is bulbs, always check these first, and second the reverse switch on the gear box, either the switch is duff or the connections to it are,
Locate the switch and check for 12v, if that is OK then connect the two connectors on the switch, (I use a 7a blade type fuse) and see if the lights (the one you have checked the bulb on) is working, if it dos the problem is in the switch and you will need to replace it.
