In the real world this job is beyond the tools and abilities of anyone who asks the question. You have to have a lot of mechanical experience and a good set of tools to undertake this job. There are dozens of steps in the procedure, you need a service manual with pictures.

In the real world it will be cheaper for you to find a good used Saturn 96-98 DOHC engine and swap it in. That again is a task beyond the scope of anyone who does not have a hoist, jack stands, and a good set of tools.

There are lots of Saturn repair videos on youtube and I am sure you can also find a video of someone removing the head of a 4 cylinder engine. The process will be about the same for any 4 cylinder, including Saturn.

Changed water pump thermostat coolant car still runs hot

It could be a leaking head gasket, or blockage in the cooling system such as sludge in the radiator, or a faulty cooling fan.
How long can you drive it before it gets to 220 degrees, and is the fan coming on ?

My 1998 Saturn Sw2 Wagon makes a loud noise in the morning when it is cold. I noticed a slack in the belt what should I do?

Sounds like the belt is slipping.

Some autos have belts that can be tightened by loosening bolts and moving various vehicle components that are hooked to the belt. Others have automatic tensioners that control belt adjustment. I am not familiar with Saturns. If it has a belt tensioner, this is probably a job best left to a professional.

1998 Saturn SW2, 180,000+ miles. Recent starting problem.

It does sound like an electrical issue.  Double check if the ground connections are all OK.  You may have to check out the wirings, even the wiring loom if all wires are still OK.

95 saturn sw2

It is pretty straight forward. You need to drop the front portion of the exhaust, and remove the brace and torque converter dust shield. There is not a gasket. Just rtv. Honda bond works very well, about a 6mm bead all the way around.

its a lot of work to get the cylinder head off before you replace the gasket and when the head is off,you will need to have it skimmed or it will blow the gasket again. you will also have to set your engine timing at rebuild so unless your a wiz with cars see a garage. Could cost you anthing over 1600 dollars
