Question about 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

1989 cutlass ciera 3.3

I was driving and then my engine quit on me. There was oil everywhere when I opened my hood. It does start, but it makes a real loud noise and dies all the time. I can't get it to go 50 ft. My friend said it might be a craked head gasket or a rod. It it worth fixing?

You are looking at a potential outlay of money that may exceed the value of the vehicle. A lot of it depends if you are going to do it yourself, or pay someone to do it for you.

If this is a second car, and you have the tools/time, you may be able to do this on your own. Many parts stores have detailed info on how to do these types of repairs! Autozone's website has online vehicle repair guides for many vehicles. You can also check the prices of the parts you will need.

A third option may be finding a used engine dealer, some used engines can be purchased for around 500 USD.

Good luck

Oil light on in 1989 cutlass ciera

The sensor wire may have fallen off the motor, the sensor may have gone bad after all these years. Ground the wire to the car, if the lite goes out, the sensor is bad. Or reverse that, remove the wire and see if the lite goes out. Depends on how the car is wired.

What is the best oil for a 1989 Cutlass Ciera

If you have no oil leaks.. I would use a synthetic or synthetic blend in the 5w 30 range. Look for oils made for high mileage engines, but that is not essential. 120k is not that high.

Where is the cam shaft sensor

Hello,

The crankshaft position sensor on a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera is located inside the engine compartment. On the Ciera's bottom of the engine block is the oil pan. The crankshaft sensor is on the side of the oil pan.

Take care.

Stalls when hot

Try a crank sensor. It's just above the oil pan center between the engine and transmission. Look and see if the old one is cracked.

I need to replace an intake gasket on a 95 oldsmobile cutlass ciera 3100 v6 front wheel drive. Any sugestions on how to remove the old gasket?

If you have never done this before, get a manual such as haynes. There's just too much to write out instructions here. When doing the job, make sure that you drain coolant first, and remove any debris that falls into engine after the intake is off. Regardless of how careful you are, some will remain so I recommend that after it's back together, run for about 1/2 hr then change engine oil.
good luck....If you need assistance with any specific problem along the way post back!!!

Thermostaat

first of all you open the hood and you can see the upper radiator hose follow that to the engine block for safety this is something you want to do when the car is cool after you follow the hose remove the screws there should be only 2 one on each side of hose and take it off the thermastat should be inside and make sure you put the new one in back the same way you took the old one out

Engine oil

I use Quaker State (or you could use Castrol) 5W30. I think the oil lid tells you what to use if it's the orginal lid.
