Question about Ford Explorer

1 Answer

I park in a lot with 15 other vehicles. Sometimes my remote will not work unless I am right next to the car and even then it takes 4 to 5 tries till it works. I bought new batteries but that was not it. Once I leave this lot the remote works fine. There seems to be some interference, but I have no idea how to find out what it is so I can do something about it. At least three of my neighbors have the same problem.

Parking brake stuck

First off, I'd make sure the car was in park with the engine off and try that but I assume you already tried with it both OFF and ON. On should never work unless your foot is already fully engaged on the break. as many cars will not allow you to release the parking break unless you foot is on the break, some will not even allow it when the engine is not running, even in park. If you are running and the foot is on the break. Try SLOWLY moving backwards or forwards to disengage it since you may have pulled it a bit too far and the cable was real tight, this is easier to do when that parking break is too loose to begin with, and once the car rolled it got even tighter but moving the vehicle in the opposite direction that it rolled may loosen it enough.

If all else fails, you or a mechanic may go under the vehicle and simply loosen the cable to disengage it and then re-tighten it. Even if you are able to loosen them yourself you may want a mechanic to tightening the parking brake since is common chore for mechanics and it should not cost that much to do since it literally take only a few minutes once on the lift.

2006 Highlander - Check engine light and VSC light on. What does this mean?

you will need to hook up a scan tool, I know many parts stores will loan you one or let you use it in the parking lot, VSC could have something to do with a wheel mounted speed sensor, did you hit something? any noises, try this and see if it goes away
    • 1 Shut off the vehicle's engine and apply the parking brake to protect yourself while working on the vehicle.
    • 2 Open the vehicle's hood and examine the engine compartment. Locate the air filter box mounted to the left of the engine. The air filter box features a black exterior, square in shape, and a large ribbed intake hose.
    • 3 Check all of the small black vacuum lines surrounding the air filter box. Reconnect any disconnected or loose vacuum lines you find.
    • 4 Start the engine and drive the vehicle to clear the "VSC" warning light displayed on the dashboard. If the VSC light fails to go out after driving the vehicle normally, proceed to the next step.
    • 5 Park the vehicle, turn off the engine and set the parking brake. Open the vehicle's hood and disconnect the battery's negative cable for 15 seconds, using an appropriate size socket. Disconnecting the negative battery cable will reset the vehicle's computer and clear the "VSC" warning.

Dash lights on my car dont work all the time

if its working in park there is a earth fault and the park light switch is sending a backward earth and this is why you get lights with it on. now there is a lot of earth wires in the dash it may be best to make a new one. you will need to find the original earth wire colour and connect the new earth to it and put on a good earthing point. you even just check the cig lighter fuse and check this some times when this fuse blows it can be on the same circuit. as its a 98 it could be this most new vehicles don't have cig lighter any more.

I have a 94 jeep cherokee with a in- line 6. its stalling out and sometimes starts up before it even rolls to a stop or sometimes like now when im sitting here at work waiting for my wife cause it stalled...

After it stalls, have someone listen at the tank to see if the fuel pump is running when you turn the key on. If you can't hear it, it has failed (they overheat and bind, when cooled down they work 'till they again get hot). if the pump is running, likely the crank position sensor (11 o'clock on the bellhousing looking from rear) has failed....symptom is pretty much identical.

The cruise control shuts off sometimes during use

Not sure, but your brake pedal might not be pushing the brake light switch back in. Next time it happens, stop somewhere safe, put the car in park and check the brake lights on the rear of the vehicle with nobody's foot on the brake pedal. If they're still on, try pulling the brake pedal up with your foot and check to see if the lights go off. If they are on then go off, you can usually adjust the brake switch closer to the pedal to put more pressure on it to get the lights to go off. If not, you might have to get a new switch. If that's not it, try wiggling the wires with it in park then take off again and see if it'll return to cruise control.

Power locks not working right

Hey, this might work.....get in truck, close doors, put key in ignition in lock position.....hold down the door lock button on driver side door control and wait for the lock control to be displayed on the information screen(odometer read-out) should say like lock 1, lock 2, lock 3, lock 4.....or something, I always reset mine to LOCK 1, to do this hold the odometer reset button on dash for a sec or two til it changes settings, then release, repeat till you get to LOCK 1, then quickly press and release odometer reset button to exit program, this is the function to lock doors over 15 mph and when out of park and to unlock doors when returned to park......yours' might be set to another function number....try it out, let me know if this helps.........good luck!
