Question about 1996 Volvo 960
If you can remove the stereo then you can most surely open the case of the stereo to find out if there's a fuse inside it. I'm a pretty good mechanic and it took me many hours to get the steroe out of my 940, 1991 model. There is a blade type fuse on the back of most Volvo units. If this is OK then re check your main fuse board. I have recently found that my 91 turbo model has a separate fuse for the rear speaker amplifier whilst trying to find out why the rear speakers had suddenly stopped working. It pays to consider the obvious things first though this usually only evident in hindsight. Persevere!

If it is a combined radio/stereo system the drained battery may have caused it to lose it's code - you will need to re-enter the radio code to make it work properly. This is similar to removing the battery from the car - you have to re-enter the radio code before the radio will work.
If there's no power at all to your stereo it's possible that jump-starting the car has caused a power surge that has blown a fuse. Depending on what type of radio/stereo is fitted, there usually is a small in-line fuse in the wiring at the rear of the unit. Check the fuse.
