Car stereo locked

I took a stereo out of a 2003 sunfire that is wrecked and put it into a 2004 grand am. it is now locked. how do i reset it?

    after looking into this further i see i can do this myself. this is the info i was looking for. if i wanted to contact a dealer i would have. no pun intended

    when swaping a stereo from one gm to another that is 2000 and up. there is no code to enter. i was told by my local dealer the only way to fix this is to hook up the car to a computer and train the car to recignize the new stero. i did take the car to the dealer for $25.00 he got it working.

I took my motor out of a 2003 sunfire and installed in a 2004 sunfire, ran good in other car but is flooding mad in the 2004 ,puzzled


Usually a flooding problem is a shorted fuel injector or a leaking fuel pressure regulator. Does it happen if the injectors are unplugged ?

Hi, your factory Sunfire wire colors are pasted below. The yellow wire should be accessory. This should connect to the stereo's red power wire. The orange "always hot" wire should connect to the stereo yellow wire--this is only used to keep your station presets in memory. I have tried the 10 min key reset and nothing has worked how do i reset the entire system is it a code using the headlights or brake or something like that???


It's when the security light starts flashing that the infamous "chip" in the key becomes a nightmare to many. Gradually the car begins not cranking anymore or if it cranks it would start and die in a second. Randomly it will do this more and more often until it won't start anymore. VATS, PASSkey and Passlock immobilizer systems are killing cars all over North America, they have a short lifespan and are certainly more effective against owners than thieves. Here is how you save your car
1st trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year. If its shuting down while running, im sorry i have no quick fix...

Cheap fix: Bypass the chip in your key. Temporary, but effective. Until the TDM (theft deterrent module) in the dash poops out, then you're kinda screwed. I was told that these types of key security systems have a 7-10 year life span. Sucks for us. This link explains the "Key Issue" pretty well.

Never worry again fix: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. Took longer to find the thing than it did to fix the problem. For a list of cars effected by this problem. See the NEWROCKIES link on the right side of their page......... They sell a unit for 200 bucks to totally bypass this system FOREVER. life time-money back and all that. Finally did this in my car. Well worth the 200 if you've looked into getting this replaced... Anywhere from 600-1000 bucks.

My 2003 Sunfire 2.2 won't start, it will rollover, a lock symbol shows on the dash


do u have an owners manual? this is the security system warning symbol, you have been locked out, try this reset procedure, if that doesn't reset the key code then you will need a dealer to hook up a GM scasnner and see what the problem is.
PASSKEY LOCKOUT RESET GM CARS 1999 UP
1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the PASSKEY system to recognize your key.

That's the anti theft lock... It's not a system that comes with every car radio, but i've saw a few of those on cavaliers and sunfires, and a few civics, and i think a couple others have some too, but i've only personnally seen and worked with the ones i mentioned. In any case, unfortunetly even if i know how they work, there is no easy way to get them unlocked and working again. You need the special code for that specific radio, and to get it you don't have the choice to go to you GM dealer and ask them to do it. You need their special machines to get the codes and get the radio unlocked, there is no other way other than changing it for an aftermarket radio again like before. So if you really want to get the OEM radio going again, go with the car to your GM dealer to prove to them it's not stolen and they will get the codes from the GM support center with their dealer code and will unlock your radio, but of course they will charge for it, dealers never give any gifts to anyone.:p So ask them how much they charge for the service, cause in some cases, buying an aftermarket radio will cost less.

about the only way to get the code if you have lost it is to go to the dealer. or you can change it to an aftermarket stereo if you want to get away from the codes

Did you change the radio from stock? If so you must take the vehicle to the dealership and they will hook it up to a scanner and input the proper codes, then when the vehicle loses power it will recognize the VIN number of the vehicle and unlock.
