Question about 1998 Saturn SL

2 Answers

STARTING PROBLEM My 1998 Saturn SL starts fine in the morning, I park the car at work and in the afternoon I head to pick up my kids which is about 15 miles from my work. I turn the car off and when I try to start the car it does not turn over than I keep on doing it and it finally does it. This has happen three days in a row. Also, when I went home yesterday at 5pm; I parked the car in the garage and than try to restart it and it would not start. However two hours later it started with no problem. Please help! I speculate it is the battery but not sure. Thanks for your help

Maybe look at the crank position sensor it costs about $14 and takes 5-10 mins to change .

I would check the starter it sounds like the started is getting hot and the solenoid on the starter is losing the connections inside and when it cools off it is making contact again

In my 1998 saturn the idiot light keeps coming on for the temperature gauge. The temperature gauge stays normal, the car runs fine. No visible leaking. Do I have a bad head gasket? Its has 170 k miles

Have the alternator and battery checked. The battery may not be holding a charge. The alternator may not be charging the battery,it should put out between 14 and 15 volts, any less the alternator is bad.
