    I have the same promblem no spark can the ignitor mounted on the drivers side strut tower be bad?

The Honda system uses a coil that mounts inside the dist, right ?
If you can check voltage output at the coil tower with the cap off you can find out if the coil is firing. If it is, then yes the rotor could be the problem. The voltage has to go thru the cap to the center of the rotor then to each plug terminal. The spark can jump thru the rotor and ground thru the dist shaft.

This works with the 5 prong module on an HEI ignition system with the coil that is mounted on the top of dist. The wires that come out of the back of the dist go to a spark controll module under the dash and they are junk. There is a conector on the wiring harness about 5" from the dist unplug that conector and run a jumper wire from the green wire to the black wire on the dist side and make sure you tape up all wires on dist side to keep them from grounding out. On the other side of the dist where your 12V goes in (batt conection) there are to wires piggybacked on top of each other disconect them from dis and plug only the pink 1 into dist at the batt conection. Where the wires on the back of dist run into firewall there should be a vacume line disconect and plug on engine compartment side. Thats how you do the bypass and the spark control module can be removed from under the dash if you want to but its not hurting anything to leave it there. BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING MAKE SURE YOU DISCONECT THE BATTERY. When all this is done you mite have to advance your timing 8-15 degrees. Do you have spark??? if so, check fuel pressure, these trucks must have 60 psi to run, 50 psi will not work,.

'87 ford van w/302 just died,no spark,replaced ign.mod. &ign.coil.still no spark.


mark the distributor and pull it out, turn the key on.with module wires connected, ground the dist. body and spin the gear, with the cap off, you should hear a light spark or tick in the distribtor, if not the pickup in the dist. is bad. a rebuilt distributor is probably cheaper than the pickup alone.

Solved most of this myself. Changed ING. module which solved spark problem. The injectors still would not function, help came from JUSTANSWERS by idenifying a relay tucked between the left headlight motor and the coolant recovery canister. Like the IGN. module, this relays not cheap. I found a $5 dollar used replacement from a self-pull wrecking yard from it's sister car, a 1988 mazda 323.

If you did check out all the ignition system and switch and everything is fine on that side, the only thing left i can see would be a faulty body ground, preventing the engine from grounding and preventing the plugs from sparking since the current has nowhere to go since it's not grounded. So check all the body grounds in that area and check for rust, or anything that could cause a faulty ground, clean it all up and try again. If it was rust, might i suggest the use of Dielectric grease, which will prevent rust from forming, but let the current flow through. Basically it's the same white grease they give you when you buy a set of new spark plug wires.

Static throttle misfire


Possible bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay.
