Chevy Malibu Check Battery Light

You stated that you found the problem on your own.  What was it?  I am having the same problem.  New battery, alternator checks good but check battery light remains on and battery drains after a short period of driving.  Also, the A/C light blinks on and off.  Any help would be appreciated.

The problem with my malibu was the plug going to the alternator. i went to the junk yard and cut a plug end off the wiring harness and replaced it on mine and it's been working fine. i don't know why it drains the battery with the broken wire in the plug, but it did. i found the problem by wiggleing the wire while my wife watched the dash for the battery light to go out. ken!

Have you tried checking the battery cables? Typically, if the alternator is charging and the battery is good, but the vehicle still is shutting itself off, than something is disrupting the alternator from getting power back to the battery.

2002 chevy malibu abs light & battery light on

-Sounds like the alternator no produce enough power.
-Start the car and let it runs for 10 minutes to temperature then check voltage at battery. You should get 14.5 volt or +/-. It less then
13 volts. the problem is the alternator. Replace it or rebuild.

Good Luck.

2001 chevy malibu wont charge my battery. I put a new alternator in and new battery lights on dash come on but the tachometer and speedometer along with fuel and temp gauge drop to nothing and the car...

Check the battery charging state yourself with a multimeter. Using the voltage setting, check across the battery terminals. WIth vehicle running the charge voltage should be around 14 volts. With ignition off the battery should retain around 12.6 volts or over.

If these are the figures you are getting close to then you have no charging issue or battery issue. You need to then check the on-board computers. You will need to run an OBD2 scanner and pull up any fault codes.

Check your ground wire to lights with DVOM; should read battery voltage from park light terminal of socket to the ground wire. If voltage is low you have a poor ground connection; if not, you may have a bulb/socket shorting across to park lamp ckt.

2008 Chevy Malibu - battery light is on, but the car has only 36K

check voltage at battery with car off, should read 13.0 volts or a hair higher. with it running at battery there should be at least 14.2 volts, if not alternator is bad or the wiring is. the voltage regulator is built into the alternator now days. it is much cheaper to have it rebuilt then buying new. it is almost new after rebuild!!

check your serpentine belt it sounds like it may have stretched or broken. Without the belt working properly your car will overheat due to the waterpump not activating and neither will the power steering or alternator
