Ignition timing is normaly on the harmonic balencer (the pully on the crank that drives fan belt).if not it will be on the fly wheel and there will be a small inspection plate and pointer.if your looking for vaulve timing / cam timing remove timing cover on the front of engine block (dont mess with this unless you know what your doing)..if your engine is belt or chain driven over head cam never ever turn engine backwards or the timing belt/chain can slip/jump and then the vaulves can hit the pistons upon starting ruening the engine

time it up with no timing marks ,easy piston at top and no1 cylinder valves closed .this was part of my exam at college ,a 4 cyl engine with no timing marks anywhere and a chain,gearwheel,distributor points rotor ,leads ,cap all seperate in a box and 7mins to start engine with a starting handle
