Well i would not drive it in this condition, you may just locate a lower mileage junkyard motor on ebay or locally they are relativlely inexpensive,, this would be the best way to go, or make your mechanic do the job right for free i think he owes you -jeff good luck

White smoke

White smoke is usually water getting into the cylinders...
this can be a cracked or warped cylinder head, or more usually a blown head gasket.

I live in Wisconsin and my 1994 Subaru Legacy will not start in the winter when it's cold. I have had no problems in the Spring, Summer and Fall but when the temperature outside goes below 15-20 degrees...

Keep the gasline antifreeze in for moisture at the pumps and if not running 5W30 weight oil could make a differance as well.........Hope this helps.

Smoking, ideling rough,

Hi: What Color is the Oil coming out of your Tail Pipe? I'm Assuming its Motor oil and not Transmission Oil.Since you found white looking substance in your oil It sounds like you have a Blown Head Gasket or both. And could be a Crank Block or Head ,Pull your Spark Plugs out, And Have someone Crank engine over and see if you are getting that white Substance Which i assume is Motor Oil.If you are getting ANY out of ANY Spark Plug hole then Is fair To Say you have a Blown Or Cracked Head Gasket.THERES only 1 Other Alternative On Older Vehicles than Yours is ,They Had what was Called a Vacum Modulator That Attached to the Auto Transmission, I worked off of Vacum From The Intake Manifold,And if the Diafram in It went Bad it would **** Transmission Fluid up Through the Intake Manifold and Burn It through your Intake and would come out tail Pipe as a WHITE SMOKE,But it normally would not be in the Enging Oil Or Radiator. So i Would 1st Check the 1st Advise i have Given You.Pull The Spark Plugs. Hope This Helps. Please REply by Voting if this Helped Youat All,Thanks From the WYOCWBOY

Running fine, then blew lots of white smoke that smelled like diesel, cut off and won't start again. Dee

If this is a gas engine You have probably blown a head gasket. If its a diesel engine of later years 03 or later you probably have an injector failure and or a injector pump failure. I hope this helps.
Thank You,

White smoke on starting engine ml270

although mercedes recomend using synthetic motor oil im 90% sure that your mechanics mistake (putting to much oil in it) ruined your piston rings thats what the white smoke is all about!! oil is getting into the cylinders!! make him replace them for free since he caused that prblem im sure he has insurance!!

White smoke but no leaks

White smoke is coolant in your combustion chamber (piston).
Indicative of cracked head or leaking head gasket.
You can do a compression check on the individual cylinders to check for cracks, but acuras are notorious for failing head gaskets and warped heads.
Have it repaired before it costs more later down the road.

F-350 turbo-diesel hard starting

Imagine the white smoke is unburnt diesel. Anybody standing in the middle of it will be able to tell you soon enough.

Most likely culprit is that one or two of the glow plugs aren't getting hot enough. Usually just that the plugs need replacing, but worth checking first that the busbar which runs between them all is getting +12V at the appropriate stage of the process.
