Until I find the fix, this will allow you to remove the key. Disconnect the negative clamp on the battery. Remove the key, and reconnect the battery. Weird, huh ? But it works !

Added five years later: That trick definitely worked. Later I discovered that if you gently press the gear shift sideways away from you while turning the key, you don't need to disconnect the battery ! It takes practice to get the finesse needed. After about two years of this tomfoolery, the problem went away on its own !

It is my understanding that the ignition is designed to capture a key and not allow the lock to turn if the transponder chip on the key does not match the vehicle. If somehow your vehicle has lost the code of the transponder or if the transponder in the key is dead you might get this. Could you have the key from another similar vehicle?

Makes sense that disconnecting the battery would disengage the capture feature.

Try wiggling the wheel while you take a small hammer and smack the key lightly straight in if that dose not work try forcing the shifter over toward park while rocking the wheel and the key good luck and let me know if that works, -jeff please rate

Why are the wheels locked on Jeep ? Won't even roll in Neutral!

so you did get the key to move enough and brakes on to move the shifter to neutral.
are you an the arctic circle, (i have a buddy there,) pop 100.
hand brake off,
park dis-engaged, neutral
if it dont move the brakes are locked
or one axle bearing is seized.
so jack up each wheel 1 by 1, and see if it turns
on flat ground, and other wheels chocked so car can not roll.
i bet all 4 can spin,

you tried to hand push a car?
lets work no starts

does it crank over in park/?
does the engine crank fast , while in the start position?
my guess is the park lock out is fooling you.
most cars the park lock up is complex now.
its really in park not neutral.
and the reason , blown fuse. my guess.
tell all that works key, on in details
head lights, not just my lights work say HEAD
they draw like 10 amps of current, about 100x more that other lights.

even better
does engines start with jumper cables, jumped from a running car.

if yes, post that first. all else is effect not cause.

Ingnition key is stuck in the ignition. Unable to remove.

your vehicle is stuck in steering lock mode move your steering wheel towards the resistance but not to the wheel locks again just 2 inch of movement should be fine also be sure to push your key in before you rotate to the off position and that you did not go past off to accessory mode. goodluck

2002 dodge neon is stuck in park, driving wheel is stuck upside down and will not move and the key will ot turn over to start the car, what is the problem and how can it be fixed?

your key may just be stuck because the wheel is hard over. turn the wheel hard over left or right and try to turn the key. you may have to give the wheel a good tug to overcome the pressure on the wheel lock

Gear shifter stuck in park, key won't turn.

Most times your stearing wheel is just locked in place in a bind. I try turning the wheel which it will only barely move and turning the key at the same time it should come free. May have to wiggle it some.

The key will not go in ingnition

make sure you dont have alot of tension on lock by moving wheel as well as turning key because alot of cars wont allow you to turn key when there is force on the steerig coloum

Key Stuck in ythe ingnition

There is a hole under the steering column right near the ignition switch, if the key gets stuck, stick a pen or something in the hole, you will feel the little lever move and you can remove the key.
