Is the cooling fan working? when does it overheat? you prob did but did you get all the air out of the engine? remove the coolant sensor on the intake and fill the system if in question. slick could be right too but you should diagnose it properly. quick check for combustion gases in cooling system is release the pressure in the radiator and replace the cap. start the engine, put it in gear and give it a little gas for about 10 seconds(this raises the cylinder pressure and increases the effect). put it back in park, leave it running and try to squeeze the top radiator hose- is it under alot of pressure? if so you could have a headgasket, cracked head or cracked block and should have it diagnosed professionally. tell the technition you would like a carbon-dioxide gas presence test done on the cooling system. if he looks at you like you are from mars-run because you are in a parts changers shop!!! you only want people to work on your car that are qualified and have the proper diagnostic equip.!!!!!!!!!
check to see if the cooling fan comes on with the a/c on- if it works. it should come on with the a/c running. you can request an answer from me if ya need/want more info. - good luck

Head bolts pulled out of the aluminum block. headgasket leaks piston compressd air into the cooling system displacing coolent. low coolant equals over heating.

My 99 alero v6 is over heating not leaking ight mite be hoses or thermostat . or head gasket but when it overb heats the smoke comes from the top of the engine

REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.IF CAR OVER HEATING WHILE IN MOTION.MORE LIKELY ITS THE THERMOSTAT,LOW COOLANT IN RADIATOR OR COOLANT SYSTEM,BAD WATER PUMP,WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IS LEAKING, WATER PUMP NEEDS REPLACING.CHECK ENGINE OIL,IF OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK SHAKE YOU HAVE LEAKING HEAD GASKET.IF CAR IN PARK AND OVER HEATS WHILE IN A LONG TRAFFIC LINE OR.BANK DRIVE THROUGH COOLANT FAN NOT TURNING ON, BECAUSE THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY.CODE SCAN CAR FOR FAULTY COOLANT FAN RELAY OR FAULTY PCM. CHECK COOLANT FAN FUSE, AND HOT WIRE THE COOLANT FAN TO MAKE SURE ITS WORKING.IF COOLANT FAN DONT WORK WHEN HOT WIRED. COOLANT FAN NEEDS REPLACING. REPLACE BOTH RADIATOR HOSES, REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.BUY NEW COOLANT ADD 50/50 WATER AND COOLANT.IF ENGINE OIL HAS ANTIFREEZE IN IT.REPLACE ENGINE OIL AND OIL FILTER TO KEEP FROM LOCKING UP THE ENGINE.GET CAR FIX.DONT KEEP DRIVING IF IT KEEP OVER HEATING,ENGINE DAMAGE WILL OCCUR.I HOPE INFORMATION I GAVE YOU WILL FIX PROBLEM.PROBLEM COULD BE LEAKING RADIATOR HOSES BUT CHANGE THERMOSTAT THATS FIRST THING I WOULD CHANGE BECAUSE IF IT CLOSED, ENGINE WILL OVER HEAT AND CRACK CYLINDER HEAD OR CRACK PISTON, COOLANT NEED TO CIRCULATE THROUGH THE ENGINE TO TAKE AWAY THE HEAT FROM ENGINE.

My cars interior is not being heated.

If the motor over heats it may be the water pump. A motor will not run very far with a bad water pump or stuck thermostat. Most of the time a water pump won't quit pumping water they leak. If the motor won't get hot enough it is the thermostat.

The water on my car keeps heating up alot and it goes into the engine coolant resevoir leaving the rediator dry

You need to replace the radiator pressure cap. I would also replace thermostat, drain and flush radiator to start. If it continues the water pump may be not pumping water. If the thermostat is stuck closed it wont allow water to cycle through the engine causing it to boil and the pressure cap is not holding the pressure allowing it to flow to the reservoir. So first change the thermostat and the radiator pressure cap.

Water is flowing changed the thermostat and the

are you sure you bleeded the air out correctly. These are a pain sometimes. Water pump blades are know to fall apart and this could also clog up the system almost anywhere

Cant figure out how to change the thermostat on my 2003 Olds Alero.

  1. (This is for a 2.2L engine) If equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the exhaust manifold.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe bolts.
  4. Remove the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe.
  5. Remove the thermostat.
