Question about 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep refuses to start

Our jeep had been getting a little hard to start lately. Sometimes I would have to turn the switch on a couple of times before it would start. Yesterday I thought I heard a strange electronic noise coming from the steering column near the key switch and this evening I went to start the jeep and it refused to start. We figured the battery might be dead, since it is ages old, and we tried to jump it off with no luck. We took it to Advance auto and they charged the batter for 45 min but told us it was dead, we put another battery in our jeep but it still will not start and there is a light on that shows a pic of a key with an x. Any suggestions much appreciated! God Bless You for your help.

If you leave your battery out of your jeep for over 30-45 minutes it will start dumping codes from the computer. You will have to have it reprogrammed because of the security features in that vehicle. The best way to replace a battery is to jump it when it won't start, leave the vehicle running, and then hook up the new one.

Wil not start right away

Jeeps from the early 90's that refuse to start right up are usually suffering from the 'delayed start check engine light problem.'
If the check engine light does NOT light up on the dash, at the times when the jeep refuses to start, then that is the problem and the jeep ecu needs to be repaired.

1994 jeep grand cherokee. i just purchased this jeep and just had it looked at at a shop and everything, lately when i first turn it on it wont start, it wont even make that noise like the engine trying to...

it could be anything realy!
get it checked again where you had it done last time as timing may have slipped its not uncomman!
a compression check would be a good idea!
as it may be low on a coupleof cylinders!
that will male it shake untill you get the revs up then its not as noticable

Key won't turn

The key problem could be a worn out key that is not disengaging the tumblers in the ignition switch or tumblers that are sticking(squirt a little wd40 in the ignition cylinder and move the key in and out a couple of times) inside the switch. Make sure the shifter is fully in park.

You should check your vacuum lines for cracks, also use zip ties on them to ensure a very tight seal.
