Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Air conditioning I have a 1996, 6 cylinder, Grand Cherokee Jeep. The air conditioning doesn't cool the way it should. It was 80 deg outside today, and the only way I could keep from even sweating was to have the air on all the way and blowing directly on me. It should cool better than that. So I figured it was probably the free-on, but when I checked the pressure it was good. Do you have ideas on what might be the problem?

Engine Cooling problem 2000 Jeep Cherokee 4 cyl

Although the 4 cylinder is too underpowered to have air conditioning in my opinion, it still shouldn't overheat within 10 minutes unless something is wrong. If your Jeep doesn' not overheat when you are driving WITHOUT AC on then your compressor might have a problem and causing the engine to work too hard to turn it.

But if it overheats without the AC on, then the first thing you need to do is check the cooling fan and see if it operates! There has been a lot of problems with the cooling fan relay on this model. If that isn't it, then move to changing the thermostat and checking the water pump.

Where is the air conditioner blower fan relay on 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee located?

The blower fan relay is located in the fuse box on the driver's side fender-well. A Jeep Cherokee uses an electric fan as an auxiliary fan for engine cooling and for cooling the air conditioning condenser when the air conditioning is in operation. A radiator temperature-sensing switch that activates the fan relay at 198 degrees F turns the fan on and controls its operation. The temperature drops when the vehicle is in motion and the switch turns the fan off. When the air conditioning system is in operation, the air conditioning relay supplies power to the fan relay via a fan diode downstream from the ignition switch. This diode activates the fan relay and keeps the fan operating as long as the air conditioning is on. Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

If the air blows normally but warm, then you need to check the compressor and its gas. you might have a leakage.
