This is most likely going to be a huge problem, that will require the rebuilding or replacement of the tranny. I recommend you have a local transmission shop diagnose it and give you an estimate.

Yeah, I'm sorry I don't have better news, but this type of problem usually has to deal with the friction plates or the band and drum system breaking, but it could also be that a valve body is plugged and a flush could fix it(that's rare) . The only other thing I've seen cause this is letting the tranny fluid run almost dry, usually less than a quart left in the tranny, most tranny's use between 9 and 13 quarts, and this usually has damaged the tranny. If you haven't, you might check the fluid level, and for any leaks.

What are some issues to look for that would cause car not to move in any gear, but you can feel it wants to go when raising rpms. Could this be the trans is gone or something minor. Helping a friend and...

Lets assume the park brake is off. If you put it in gear, forward or reverse and the engine revs but care doesn't move, you are either very low on automatic transmission fluid or the transmission is burned up. Check the fluid level. If normal smell the fluid. If it smells burned, there is no doubt that the transmission is burned up.

1997 Honda Accord, 4 cyl, auto trans. When I turn

The starter sit on top I belive on the passenger side above the transmission, have some one hold the key to start while you tap or even hit the starter some time it will crank over if it does replace it, not that big of a job. If it still dont start there a big wire that one comes from the battery and a small one that come from you ignition switch ( key ) jump those two wire's ( if stander transmission make sure you have it out of gear ) there should be voltage at big wire all the time, if it still dont crank over replace starter assembly.Hope this was very helpful.

What is the capacity for transsmission pan in my chevy cavalier 2.4 1997

If you're just dropping the trans pan of an AUTOMATIC transmission; about 5 quarts. If you mean the entire transmission, its more like 10 quarts. If it's a MANUAL trans, it's a little under 2 quarts.

Hope this solve your question (remember rated this post).

Check your automatic transmission fluid first, see if it is full and or smells burnt. If it is low that could be the problem, but if it smells burnt the transmission is going bad and should go in the shop.
