You could avoid that by taking it to a qualified repair shop ! Because it obvious you do not know how to do automotive electerical testing ! How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit First off you need to know how the system works , all componets in the circuit . How to find a wiring diagram , how to use a volt meter . And in a lot of caes the ignition switch is a input to a control module , BCM - body control module ,PCM - powertrain control module etc... Starter Voltage Drop
The problem is in the start circuit if the starter won't engage from the key. From battery to ignition switch to neutral park safety switch to starter relay to starter solenoid to starter to ground and back to battery-lights come on so switch is good, next check the neutral safety switch for power in and power out. Once you get the start circuit working so starter engages from the key, then you can address the ignition circuit for possible no spark.
Sounds like you have several problems. If the engine will not crank, do you have power on the purple wire on the small starter terminal when the key switch is in the start position ?
There is a harness where the starter wires run through that connect through the transmission neutral safety switch. The 7 way connector goes bad try wiggiling this harness and have some trying to turn over the vehicle and see if it starts if it starts then you will need to replace that connector.
k, not cranking, is the battery good, if yes you could try to jump the starter and see if it cranks, if not you could pull it and have it tested. If the starter is good, might be the ignition switch.
Try another starter and also try turning the crank bolt with a ratchet and socket to make sure that the crank isn't frozen in place. Do not leave the keys in the car when doing so. You don't want anyone messing around in the truck when trying that!
