Question about 2005 Dodge Caravan

EGR valve? Hi, I have been having problems with my 2005 Dodge Caravan. It sputters and drives kind of "jerky". It mostly does this after it rains. Also a few minutes ago it lost power steering/brakes and the check oil light came on when I made a right hand turn. The check engine light has been on for a while. I have took it to a mechanic and he put it on the computer and told me the EGR valve needed cleaning. We live in a small town and he knows my father so he told me to have my dad do it for me(to save money). But, Daddy is not comfortable doing this without directions because it is a vehicle with a computer and he is not sure where the valve is in this particular vehicle. He said he would do it for me if I could find directions for him. But, I am not having any luck. Can you tell me how to clean this thing so I can print it for my dad? I have two small children and I am becoming afraid of my van! If you could help I would really appreciate it! Thanks Brandy

What you have here sounds like problems that are coincidental, but unrelated. It's hard to say without knowing the engine size (3.3V6??), but the oil light on right hand turns might be an oil pump problem, but I would be more apt to say that your oil level was low, so do check it & add regularly. The rain sputtering could be a bad distributer cap, or even in rare cases, an egr valve, which might explain the engine light...I assume the sputtering only lasts until it warms up. Having worked for Dodge for some time, I can say that these are uncommon problems for a van so new, unless it's a high mileage, or poorly maintained vehicle... Very peculiar. Normally they are very reliable (I drive one myself). Take care & good luck

Hello Brandy... You might also want to check the condition of the Throttle Body - for cleanliness that is. If it's very dirty, not enough air can pass around its internal blade, causing the engine to run rough, slower than normal and eventually stalling. This is happening when you're turning, placing a heavier load on the motor from the P/S pump. Please have this cleaned, battery disconnected for several minutes to reset the computer and try again. I think you'll see an improvement. Post again if you continue to have troubles.

2006 Dodge Caravan Sputtering. Code says EGR Valve. Would an EGR valve cause the van to sputter and run rough?

Absolutely. You'll know if your EGR valve is stuck or malfunctioning because your car will experience symptoms like rough idle and bucking on acceleration.

EGR FLO CKT RANGE on my 06 dodge grand caravan is showing for my code- the vehicle surges while driving- what is a EGR FLO anyhow?

EGR----- exhaust gas return
The flow is the return of the exhaust gases back into the intake manifold. If the port or ports on the under side of the valve are blocked, that would cause an insufficient flow.
If the pintle in the valve is not opening or closing all the way, in other words a faulty egr valve, would cause the same problem, best thing to do is have it checked.

Have a 2005 dodge ram with 5.7 hemi has an eng

Dodge/Chrysler EGR valves are known to be unreliable. The one on my wife's 05 Grand Caravan died in the 40k miles range.

They are not really serviceable. The usual fix is replacement. Part will be between $50 and $150 depending on where you get it. Installation most of the time is 2-4 bolts and the harness.

Code p0406 dodge grand caravan 3.8 engine. Is it the EGR valve or the O2 sensor?

P406 is a EGR code, EGR will also cause a knocking/ pinging sound when there bad. Very common problem. The position sensor inside the valve goes bad. Your going to have to replace the whole EGR valve and it can put out variety of codes from P0401 to P0406. The new valve will solve the problem and easy to replace, you can pick one up at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the EGR with common tools. Good luck and hope this helps.
