Question about 1996 Volkswagen Jetta
I've had my Jetta for about 2 and half years. I bought it from a guy who had it stored in a garage for 6 years. The first month I had it, the check engine light and coolant light came on. I took it to a mechanic shop, they did some basic maintence, lights went off, couple of weeks later they came back on. So far I've had several hoses replaced, a tune-up done, the water pump replaced, and some other stuff I can't remember. Every time I've taken it to a shop or had someone work on it, the lights always come back on. It started to over heat today and leak a red fluid.
Any suggestions on what might be wrong with it?
Most probably a leaking water pump. G12 radiator fluid is red, but so is automatic transmission fluid.
The water pump is driven by the belt near the air filter. Park ur car and let it run, look underneath ur car to see where it's leaking from.
Radiator fluid is slightly oily and has a sweet smell to it. Touch the fluid off the ground and smell it.
Is ur car automatic or manual? Which engine?? 1.8 or 2.0?
Get back to me so we can figure out ur next move.
