The seat and steering wheel are supposed to retract when the convenience feature is enabled.
On my car only the steering wheel retracts while the seat doesn't automatically retract.
This has happened before and the Mercedes tech was able to outsmart the computer to get it to work.
Honestly, this is a recurring problem with the c-class. There is a certain range(dependent on how far back a person sets his/her seat), that screws with the computer programming and it loses the synchronization on how far to move it forward/back. The tech most likely already reset the seat parameters to get to work for awhile, but I might be inclined to take it back and let them have another go at it anyway, just to make sure. I don't recall any real repair for this problem, but I do know M-B stopped including this feature for a reason.

there are probably small plastic lock pins that take up the slack in the column
these break of when a heavy pressure is applied to the wheel either by the drive or in an accident to allow the column to collapse
the fix is a new steering column
check the steering column for failed "U" joints or flexible connections
Take it to an accredited specialist steering shop for a proper diagnosis
This is one of the feature called easy access. You can go to the setting from menu at the buttons on your steerling wheel to turn it off then it will stay down. It is under convennient set up, go to steering column and select off.
The gear oil needs cheching via a computer and probe that normaly only main dealers have , and the engine oil if it has no dip stick it needs cheching via a program on the steering wheel. consult manual for exact procedure.
There is a rubber dogbone connector that hooks between steering column adjuster and motor mechanism. This piece is broken. It should be replaced by a trained technician due to the complexity of removing part of the underdash panel, steering column, and instrument cluster.
