Question about Honda CRX

2 Answers

Got on E-Bay a cheap 1987 Honda Civic CRX w/5speed Manual Transmission....Car runs great except when you drive down the road no matter what gear you are in a loud grinding noise comes from what I have been able to determine is either the transaxle, or the axles. It is definitely not the brakes because when you apply them the noise does not go away...and the brake pedal feels strong not mushy.... The noise continues even when you put the transmission in neutral and shut off the engine. The axles do not make any noise when you make a closed turn in either direction, making me think it is not the CVJs...Could this be a bad Ring and Pinion or a bearing ?

Have you checked the wheel bearings for play or roughness? If they're OK i'd suggest gearbox differential bearings. If they're that bad you'll find metal filings or swarf in the gearbox oil. Most *** cars have a magnetic oil drain plug.

Hard to Get into Gear?

Either your clutch is not fully dis-engaging or the transmission synchros are worn. Check the clutch master cylinder for level and check system for any leaks if it is a bit low.
