Check engine light

I have changed the thermostat, disconnected the battery and the check engine lite stays on on my Kia Sportage 2001. It is also only giving 13 miles to the gallon. Can you help help solve these problems?

I don't have the paperwork in front of me with the specific code number, but I just had my 2001 Kia Sportage on the diagnostic, and it said by the code that popped up, it was recommended that I replace the thermostat and ECT sensor. I've been reading online that many people have already done this, but their check engine light still remains on. I've only had this car two months, and it runs great so far (still does) and the temp guage still reads just below half. Is it really going to solve my problem? The estimates are $315 for this repair, so I'm undecided, if it isn't going to solve the problem and the car isn't overheating. Any thoughts?

Engine Light Staying on

i had the same problem, replaced several components spending a few hundred dollars. no luck. finally put in a four dollar bottle of 108 octane booster and a half tank of premium gas, disconnected the battery for two minutes to turn off engine light, drove it 60 miles, light stayed off, passed emissions test easily. still no light, problem solved.

When taking off fast check engine comes on and loses power and barley idles at stop sign 2001 kia sportage

take it to an auto parts store that checks you check engine code for free.get the cone and trouble shooting print out .take apen and paper incase they cant print it out this code and what it represents is going to help you find your problem .once the light comes on it will stay in you memory till the battery is disconected or until a code reader clears it . so you have some vital info stored in your memory

Hold lite and and a p1624 code on a 2001 sportage

Code number p1624 is MIL Request Signal from TCM to ECM. which means malfunction indication light(MIL) is requesting a signal from your engine control module(ECM) or Transmission control module(TCM) i would reccomend u take it to the dealership to get it checked out.
