Car Powers Up, No turn, No Click, Nothing but power

So I parked my my 1998 Lexus Es300 about eight months ago and just got back to find it will not start, I know letting it sit for that long was bad. Everyone i've called has said something different (all want me to spend an incredible amount of money just for it to be towed) so hears my problem... I thought it was a battery, so I bought a new one, hooked it up all the power comes on in the car, lights, radio ect. but there is no turn, no clicking, nothing.  How possible is it that its a starter problem? The starter was fine when i parked it. Do you think its electrical (maybe the starter relay?) or mechanical (maybe the starter or alternator?) Where do I start? Could it be as simple as spark plugs? I think it may have clicked the first time I tried to start the car with the old battery and it didnt start, Im assuming because there was lack of power, then the when i brought the new battery home there was no click... Thank you sooooo much for any help you may have to offer!!

I am having the same problem with my 98' lexus es300. Replaced the battery.. replaced the starter... didn't fix the problem. Now I am unsure what to do... I'll probably look into the relays like the manual says and see what happens.,,

My Lexus (ES 300 "98) has been clicking when I try and start the enjne, after quite a few attempts it eventually starts. This has benn happening for months? Today my car warning lights came on and white smoke came from hood an exhaust. Yesterday my husband used my car to charge his battery, and left the plastic cap off of the positive terminal. I think these are two totally different issues, but not sure it the smoke and lights are associated with battery or ongoing problems with electrical stuff? HELP me please...thanks so so much

You could try and take the negative connector off the battery post, if its held on by screws take the screws out use a wire brush and clean off all the rust on the wires and the inside of the connectors.. just make it all clean and shiny. If you don't have a good ground the starter will not even click, i had the same problem with my car where the car sat for 6 months

I had a similar problem. My 1998 Lexus ES300 wouldn't start. I had to change idle control valve. I don't have such problems ever since. I read that many used Lexus/Toyota owners had the same problem with that valve.

How do I repair the parking brake on a 1998 es300

When I put springs back in I use a pair of needle nose pliers, the longer the better. hook the short side in first then grab the other side with the pliers and pull or push and twist into place. good luck

'98 Lexus ES300 Won't Start--But Has New Battery!

If your is exhibiting the same signs as a dead battery it really sounds like your alternator is bad. If you are handy, you can remove the alternator and take it to an autoparts store like autozone and they will test it for you. This is not a hard job to do, usually 2 electrical connections, 3-5 mounting bolts and you have to pop the belt off. Just reverse it to install a new one. Good luck! - Nick
