1. The oil pressure sending sensor is going bad.
2. You are really low on oil and the pump is sucking in air at times.
3. The oil pump in your engine is failing.
Did it start all of a sudden or has it been getting worse over time? How many miles on the engine? If it started all of a sudden I would get the oil pressure checked. It's probably low, especially if you have high mileage but could be a sign the oil pump has gone bad. If it's low you and you have high mileage then you could get away with putting heavier oil in it. That would quiet them down. They are most likely worn so they leak down and have a hard job maintaining their pressure. If you have over 150,000 on it you could go to 20W50 oil without any trouble except in the winter. A block heater would solve that or cutting back to a 10W40. Hope this helps.
There are a few things to cause the oil pressure to change.
The first, and easiest to check, is your oil filter. Some filters have a bypass valve, when did you last have engine serviced ?
Another part is the oil pressure sender itself. It may be shorting or going bad.
Please check those out and let me know.
either the oil pressure sender is defective or the pressure relief ball valve in the oil pump is sticking, my money would be on the oil pump pressure relief valve ball sticking.
change oil filter use a k&n or mobile one, seen same problem on caravans some oil filters cannot take the pressure and break up inside causeing no flow of oil period.could happen at any time with cheap oil filters, chryslers have high volume oil pumps and require a better flowing filter.
as for your engine not starting you may have severe bearing wear, from low oil pressure.
i would check the the oil pressure sensor is not foul up this can happen sometimes, as there is vain in the sensor. this reads the pressure. and tell the ecu. and your display.
