Question about 2006 Pontiac Torrent
There are relays not just fuses for the cooling fan. look under the hood there should be a black junction box open it and you will see several little black cubes those are relays. if you have the owners manual they will show what each one is for. start the vehicle and let it get to operating temp 180-190 degrees your fans normally kick on at this point what i normally do is take the relay for the a/c clutch and swap it for the radiator cooling fan if the fans kick on you know it was the relay. if they don't kick on then you know that the temp sensor on the radiator is bad., but before you go replacing anything make sure that there are no loose or missing wires. that all mplug connections are tight and not coroded and that with the engine off that the fan blades spin freely. once checking everything and you still have an issue then the fans are bad and need to replace it.. please rate this thanks

After the fuse would come the relays, then coolant temp sensors. You might also try to get a 12 volt power reading at the connector to the fans to see if they are getting a power feed as well.

You have to refer to your owners manual or an after market service manual for fuse locations but that is not the issue. There is a sending unit screwed into the block with a temp sensor that closes the circuit on the ground side when the cooling system reaches a specified temperature. There is a fuse between the hot side and the fan for over current protection (see manual). A bad sending unit is most likely the culprit. Measure the resistance or continuity when the engine is hot from the sending unit body which is grounded to the block, and the output terminal or black wire running to the fan motor. It should be closed or read less than 0.5 Ohms. If it is open or very high resistance replace it. Good luck to you. I hope thishelps

Whoever told you the temperature gauge on cavalier is normal 3/4th is the lie. It is however in operating temperature range but on the hot side. Have you flushed your coolant and replaced thermostate, and gotten air vapor locks out.
