I replaced the intake manifold gasket (in my 99 astro) which required removing the distributor. I followed the instructions on making my marks for re-install of the dist. but when re-installed the engine will not start and I assume the timing is now off. The manual states that the timing is not adjustable, however there has got to be a way to re-establish proper timing.

SOURCE: 2001 astro chevy van 4.3 engines need to set the timing

The distributor in that engine can only be installed in one position. The hold down is built onto the distributor meaning when it is installed and the engine runs the computer is responsible for the timing. The distributor will move a little but won't correct major timing errors.

I need a fire timing order for a chevy astro van v6

THE FIRING ORDER IS AS FOLLOWS : 1-6-5-4-3-2.
CYLINDER NUMBERS (front-to-rear) :
LEFT (driver side) 1-3-5
RIGHT (passenger side) 2-4-6

To set ignition timing, ensure that engine is at operating temperature, (190 degrees or above), bypass EST (electronic spark timing) by unplugging the single tan wire with a black stripe from the distributor. Ignition timing should be set at 0 degrees or TDC (top dead center). If not, loosen distributor hold down bolt and adjust, then retighten.

Back driver side wheel is making a loud pounding noise when van is in motion 1997 chevy astro van

run your hand across the tire tread itself and check to see if the tread is feathered or cupped. this will cause road noise. Also could be a wheel bearing worn.

Has the 'Check Engine' light come on? I had this problem at 30,000 miles and the trouble codes set were transmission component slipping. Ultimately required replacement of the transmission.
