When i go to start up my car sometimes it cranks and sometimes it doesn't. All the lights come on the battery is fine. We thought the problem was the starter so we changed that but as soon as i opened my big mouth and said im glad my car is finally fixed, it wouldnt crank again..

Me and a girl I work with just happened to both buy VW beetles 2001 models, we have had them a week, both cars did this, after searching online for others with this problem, I found that by locking and unlocking the door locks till the key dies (quits unlocking the locks) the key resets it self and the cars crank like normal//something about an immobolizer within the key..makes no sense, but it works!

I also have a 2001 VW Beetle. Same problem as you. Would start sometime but sometime it wouldn't. My beetle has 93,000 miles. Had to replace the ignition switch.

I also have a 2001 VW Beetle with the problem where it would start or not start whenever with felt like it. All lights would work but engine would not turn over. Found an intermittent ignition switch to be the problem.

Depends on if the vehicle is a automatic transmission or a Stick shift. If it is an automatic could be the neutral safety switch, if it is a stick shift could be the safety switch at the clutch pedal. Hope this helps.

My 1993 nissan sentra 1.6 wont run and check engine light wont turn on,bulb is ok

Could be any of several things. If the crank sensor is marginal and not sending pulses, the fuel pump is shut off. This is for safety. The pump is energized for a few seconds as key is turned in preparation for starting then engine must rotate normally to keep the pump on. If it stops, in a few seconds the fuel is cut off.

sounds like you engaged the security system is you security lite on or flashing? if it is try the 30 minute reset turn key on and leave it on for 10 minutes turn off the key and do this again two more times without cranking the engine after the third time turn off the key for a few seconds and then start the engine your security light will be off . if this dosen't work check all of your ignition fuses

The fault could be a faulty starter solenoid or a faulty started motor or worn statrer motor brushes.

I have a 1997 oldsmobile 88. the car has been working fine since i bought it about a month ago from a friend of a friend he said it has never gave him problems only 2 owners. but the problem im having is...

Could be the saftey switch, try starting it in netrual. if that dosen't work, then it could also be the igntion switch. Did you try to bang on the starter while the key's in the start posistion? Sometimes this will 'jog' a worn-out starter. If you have a way to see if voltage is being sent to the starter solinoide would be a way to rule that out. good luck.

WONT START.SECURITY LIGHT FLASHES WHEN TRYYING TO START

Anti Theft System - inmobilizer is actovated. Need disarm to start engine. Have you another key and fob? Try lock/unlock cycle with new key + fob. Your key may be corrupted.

Try also just unlocking the car with the key (not the fob) as soon as you unlock the door put the key in the ignition immediately and see if the car starts.

If you have your radio code it may be worth trying a total reset (leave the car unlocked) disconnect the battery and leave for 20 mins. then reconnect.

Hope help with this.

Wont start

May have tripped the alarm. Dont use the key fob. Use the actual key in the door lock. Try on passenger side of car as well.
