I turn the key over lights come on a/c turns on but no engine. i've tried to unlock the car and restart it but that dosen't work. after several tries(like an hour later) the car starts. we've check the battery and its fine, just got a tune up so what could be the problem?
I also have a 2001 VW Beetle with the problem where it would start or not start whenever with felt like it. All lights would work but engine would not turn over. Found an intermittent ignition switch to be the problem.
Depends on if the vehicle is a automatic transmission or a Stick shift. If it is an automatic could be the neutral safety switch, if it is a stick shift could be the safety switch at the clutch pedal. Hope this helps.

Could be any of several things. If the crank sensor is marginal and not sending pulses, the fuel pump is shut off. This is for safety. The pump is energized for a few seconds as key is turned in preparation for starting then engine must rotate normally to keep the pump on. If it stops, in a few seconds the fuel is cut off.
sounds like you engaged the security system is you security lite on or flashing? if it is try the 30 minute reset turn key on and leave it on for 10 minutes turn off the key and do this again two more times without cranking the engine after the third time turn off the key for a few seconds and then start the engine your security light will be off . if this dosen't work check all of your ignition fuses
i have had the same thing with my 97, turn the key to ON but don't crank engine, leave for 10 - 15 min until the light goes out then crank engine it should start. GM has bugs with their security systems.
Could be the saftey switch, try starting it in netrual. if that dosen't work, then it could also be the igntion switch. Did you try to bang on the starter while the key's in the start posistion? Sometimes this will 'jog' a worn-out starter. If you have a way to see if voltage is being sent to the starter solinoide would be a way to rule that out. good luck.
my 1990 charade had same problem, tried every thing ended up just turn key off and on farly fast.by that i mean just so the dash lights go on and off.dont ingadge starter, then it should start striataway... from bushmacanic'
