My 2004 Sport Trac gauges jiggle and won't make the connection to register. This is an intermitent problem. It happens when the vehicle is parked or moving. The battery & terminals have been checked. There are literally no readings when this happens and it also resetsjust the trip meter each time.

I'm having about the same issue. I've traced it to a problem behind the instrument panel/cluster. You will need to or have a mechanic pull the instrument panel and check to see what is causing the gauges to malfunction. I can tap on the instrument panel and everything comes back. There is a short of some sort. When I find out more, I'll post. Good luck

SOURCE: Gas gauge isn't registering-shows low

You most likely have a bad fuel level sensor. It will cause inaccurate fuel reading.

I hope this helps.

My 2004 ford explorer sport trac won't turn over and on the display it show bunch of dashes and says check gauges when i turn on the key

sounds like a dead battery , try a jump start ,if it starts have the alternator charge rate checked as if low may have been the cause of the battery going flat, then recharge the battery with a drive of about 20 miles

DOES 2001 SPORT TRAC HAVE A COOLANT BLEEDER SCREW

Is it possible you only recently noticed this? All vehicles have a "lamp test" and or gauges test when the key is first switched on, Check your owners manual. If the engine isn't overheating you're chasing a non-problem and that's good because you can stop without spending another dime on the issue.

2004 sport trac engine died as driving

I also have a 2004 sport trac and I had the same thing happen to me on the highway and in town. I thought that it might have been a fuel problem but I was wrong. When it finally quit restarting, it was towed in and the problem was the crank sensor. Apparently it is really close to the belts and it is susceptible to wear.

Engine location of the PVC on a 2004 ford explorer sport trac

Your vehicle is equipped with a "heated PCV" It is located on the back of the intake manifold and has coolant lines attached to it. It must be unbolted from the manifold. (See picture)
