Question about 2002 Ford Escape

1 Answer

Idle speed Some times when I start the engine it will not stay running or dies when I take foot off gas to put on brakes. Then like flipping a switch it will run smooth. Next time or two it may start and run OK. Then may act up the next time or two.

I have replaced the EGR valve and the spark plugs, the three on the back of the motor were burnt. Now there is a vacuum hose with a hole in it at the top of the motor. It keeps idlein low and tries to cut off, my check engine light stays on and they keep saying it has something to do with the EGR system.

From what I can tell with the info I have It has the sound of the IAC it messing up and this is a pretty common problem sometimes you can remove it and clean it but you will need to replace it in the near future.Iac stands for Idle air control
Jim

on the other user the first thing you must do is fix the vacuum leak then check the code and if it is a P0401 or so this is caused by the DPFE and it will need replaced it too is a fairly common problem and will cause alot of different drivability concerns.DPFE stands for delta pressure feedback sensor

Car won't stay running, starts up and then just dies off like it never had a Chance of staying idle.

Hi Johnny, Im AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

Johnny, here's something I want you to try. I want you to start the engine while giving it a little gas, not much, just enough to see if it will idle. If it does Idle and stays running with your foot on the gas and dies when you remove your foot. Then go and buy an 'IDLE AIR CONTROL MOTOR" It mounts on the throttle body. Put that on, there are only two screws that holds it on, very easy to replace. After installing it the idle will be real high, this is normal, just wait it will stabilize and idle normal. NOTE: if it still dies even with your foot on the gas, then you have another issue but this is a good place to start. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website at: http://www.bigasautorepair.com/

Why does my 1995 pathfinder die when gas is not pressed?

The engine is fuel injected, so no carburetor.
Usually the problem is a dirty throttle body, faulty IAC valve, or other component.
The computer uses the idle air control valve to adjust the idle speed.

This is a known issue for your model and for GrandAm's. Best to take it to your dealer.

My '98 Camry won't stay started. I start it and it just dies not matter how many times I try it. If I leave my foot on the gas it runs but at soon as my foot leaves the gas it dies.

What you have is a bad Idle Air Control ("I.A.C.") valve. This device admist a precise amount of air to keep the engine running at idle. This is a common issue. Get a new one from a dealer, and you will be up and running fine.
