Car is shifting wildly and o/d off light is flashing

where is said lamp? located, exactly
the users guide is lost sure.
no VIN told or country. lamps are by laws in vast countries, (facts)
toyota, online, asks for VIN to get the free manual
so sorry I can't be you and do that.

my wild wild guess, is the gear shift PWR lamp
that changes gear shift, (auto shifting delayed shifts)
ECT PWR MEANS ELECRONICALLY CONTR. TRANS./
If say pulling boat and do not like the early shifts
this is handy. but use it and see what it does.
it wastes fuel to get more speed.

we SCAN the PCM for P3xx or P7xx codes misfire and A/T errors (never skip this !!!)
you do know any transmission brain (TCM will get confused if the engine is weak or misfires right, so engine is first to worry.
but you said engine REVS (rpm up high) and car is slow and or
transmission fails to up-shift, to 2nd in drive.??????
any tech in any shop sees the car, and scans it first.
and see OMG dead transmission speed sensors
or sees, gross misfire,
or must drive it first to see what is going on.
if up-shifts fail at the documented shift points the transmission is bad.
or just 1 sensor on it.
this is called DRIVE_ability issue that can only be solved by tech driving it and seeing it fail.
not the blind, not me,but the shift points are what matters.
and if the tech feels misfire or power loss even in 1st gear.
he knows the engine has a problem. (or even both)
2001 is old car, most cars this old have like 10 ignored problems in the wild.

or bad spark plugs and bad speed sensor both, a wild guess and common for sure.
post VIN or the RPO code so we can decode drive-train there.

Get the trouble codes read and then you'll know what the problem is. Don't guess. That's why they make trouble codes--to avoid wild guesses

I have a 91 Accord. The speedometer started going wild, 30 mph. 75 mph and I was at a stop finally quit working and the S light came on. I finally changed the speedo sensor and the S light went off...Check engine light was also on, read on a forum that the speedo sensor does more than control your speedometer, maybe that your trans is not getting the info it needs to shift.....

my wild guess is this car is the 4sp A/T (electronic shifted TCM)
transmission, right? (they sold these with 3,4,5peed boxes)
all work different.
this car the ECU/PCM does the 4speed shifting,
and sets DTC;'s when the tranny messes up.

you see OD flash.?
or CEL glow running
we plug in the cheap $9 scan tool (ask) and see P07xxx
DTC error cords, P07 means bad trans.
post the DTCs. and post the driving symptoms.

then we can talk.

I recommend, keep this PDF on CD or mem.stick and handy at all times, put it in the glove box, so when out of town its handy.

is this a A/T car? with the 7+ shift lights on dash?
see page 38 and tell us all what that lamp really is.
my wild guess, is the D4 lamps is flashing (super is not a word in the book)
and page 38 tells you, what that means. "tranny MALF"
says go to Honda. (or AMMCO)
if you want to dig in? then read the FSM on the tranny
it has like 100 pages covering on car A/T service.
this A/T car has an A/T brain, called the TCm.
it can flash out error codes, all this is covered in spades in the FSM .

FSM is the factory service manual. read TCM section.

Have the park/ neutral safety switch checked. this is most likely your problem.
